So my work has been steadily going down hill over the years as to people socializing, and we seem to have sunk into little groups of co-workers who don't really know each over and no longer even go to the pub together

My group? We went lawn bowling. Yes, lawn bowling. Apparently there is not only a lawn bowling club in Golden Gate park, but there are also several pitches devoted exclusively to this, er, sport.
Actually, it was quite fun. Look for something whacky like that so no one will be an expert. ;)
We had an event where we were broken down into four teams of four (carefully picked to ensure maximum de-cliqueing) and then sent out on a mystery hunt around Edinburgh. We had questions and directions and we had to answer the questions (e.g. you will find a courtyard there, what are the four animals on the mosaic?) while making our way to an unknown destination... which was a pub with food laid on for us. When we got there we had a picture round and a winner announced. We started it by finishing early in the afternoon -- sort of making it part of the working day to ensure attendance. Worked well. And there were two variant routes to the pub with different questions, and teams went off 15 mins apart, to make sure we didn't run into each other. Apparently the pub was free to hire as it was a Wednesday.
