Fic: A Sorta Fairytale | Part Five | Addison/Callie

Nov 16, 2007 18:52

Friday morning was not wasted. Despite their near sleepless night (due to strenuous salsa dancing and love making), Callie and Addison awoke early to head to the animal shelter. As Addison drew her BMW into the empty parking space and turned off the ignition, she looked at an exuberant Callie, who bounced in her seat.

"Now, remember our pep talk."

Callie took a deep breath. "We can't save them all."

"Despite the fact that we will want to."

"And we're at a no-kill shelter."

" So those animals we'd love to have won't end up euthanized because we couldn't take them in."

Callie exhaled. "Thank God."

Addison kissed Callie's knuckles. "Okay. We're ready."

"Let's go adopt a cat."

They walked hand-in-hand into the shelter, greeted warmly by a young sandy-haired woman who introduced herself as Cynthia. "You're the couple wanting to adopt a cat?"

Addison smiled and nodded, her cheeks flushing with warmth.

"Awesome; it's so great when we can give an animal a home. Why don't you two follow me?" She led the way out of the reception area into a back room where there were several rows of pens containing cats of various breeds and ages. In an adjoining room Addison heard several barks. "Were you looking for a full grown cat or a kitten?" Cynthia asked, leaning back against a counter.

"Not too young," Addison said, squeezing Callie's hand as she glanced into a cage containing several orange kittens that were no bigger than her hand.

"Is this your first pet together?" Cynthia questioned, shuffling through several stacks of paper and setting some aside.

Callie nodded.

"Cats are great first pets. My partner and I have four...it's hard not to fall in love with the animals you work with. We've got a dog, too."

Addison flushed once more, oddly thrilled to know that she and Callie fit into this niche, that they weren't outsiders. She knelt down, her hand still firmly clasped in Callie's, to peer into another pen. Amongst several calico cats was a slumbering kitten that Addison found striking. Its coat was white, speckled with black spots on its back and black stripes decorated the one arm upon which it rested its head. Addison stared for several moments, smiling as it opened its rich, green eyes and stared back.

"Callie, look at this one." She tugged Callie's hand, pointing at the white kitten as Callie leaned down.

"Awe, it's beautiful," Callie said, beaming as the kitten yawned and stretched, walking over to where she gripped the cage for support. Both women watched as the cat sat regally before them, leaning forward to lick at Callie's finger. "This is the one," Callie said, stroking her finger over the soft, white fur of the cat's neck.

Addison motioned to Cynthia, who smiled at them as she opened the cage and pulled out the cat. "This 'lil gal is one of my favorites," she said, scooping the cat into her arms. "We rescued her about four weeks ago from an abandoned home in Hollywood. She was dehydrated and starving but she's a fighter." She held the cat out to Addison, who accepted the fragile feline. Its little claws clung to her shoulder and she overlooked the fact that it was pricking her blouse as it began to purr.

"What breed is she?" Callie asked, toying with the cat's tail.

"Dez, well, Desdemona, is a five-month old Egyptian Mau," Cynthia said. "They're pretty rare so they're on the more expensive side; I can't imagine why anyone would have abandoned her when they obviously went through some trouble to get her."

"The poor thing," Addison said, petting the cat's short fur.

"Maus are very friendly, loyal cats. They're very family-oriented."

Callie and Addison exchanged a smile. "She's perfect," Addison said. "We'll take her."

Cynthia beamed and headed for an adjoining office. "I'll just grab the paperwork and we'll get things squared away."

Addison passed the cat to Callie, who cradled the small form on her bust. It purred softly and nestled its head against her chest and Callie looked up at Addison, who was stroking its tiny paw.

"Dezzie has two mommies," Callie said, her face alight with her happiness.

Addison smiled and leaned in for a soft kiss. Somehow Addison knew this should feel silly, or cliché, but your basic textbook (would a lesbian relationship be textbook?) fairytale romance between two women had to include a pet of some kind before...whatever would happen upon them in the future. A brief image of Callie aglow with pregnancy flashed before her and she blushed furiously. It was presumptuous to think that they'd be together long enough to have a family...but yet, Addison felt sure about Callie in a way she never had about Derek or Mark. She brushed her finger over Callie's where it rested on the cat and it felt like home.
--

Callie lay on her back in the center of the bed, her hair fanned over the mattress. Dez playfully swatted at the thick tendrils, pausing to chew on a small clump. Callie laughed, her voice reverberating warmly around Addison's heart. She clung to the sweatshirt she was folding, hugging it tightly to her chest as she watched Callie grab the cat and place her on her abdomen.

The kitten began to knead her breast and Callie yelped, pulling the feline's claws from her chest and lifted her so that she was standing upright on her belly. "Dez isn't gonna hurt Mama C's boobs anymore, okay?" She mimicked the cat's squeaky voice. "'Okay Mama C!'" She flicked her eyes to Addison, who stood staring. "Who thinks Addie needs to stop packing and play with us?" She raised the cat's paw and then raised her own arm. "Majority wins--stop packing! I'm not even leaving until tomorrow at 5."

"I know, I just want to be prepared," Addison said, placing the sweatshirt in the suitcase. "That way we won't have to pack tomorrow."

"Leave out the sweatshirt; I'm gonna wear that tomorrow."

The kitten mewled unceremoniously, jumping off the bed and heading out of the room. "She eats non-stop," Addison commented, reaching for Callie's black bra that was draped over the bedpost. She folded it in half and placed it on top of the sweatshirt.

"She's got a nice, healthy appetite. She clearly got that from me," Callie said, reaching for Addison's leg. Addison swiped the grasp and Callie whined. "Baby, no more packing. You're making it too real."

"I just don't want to waste any time tomorrow."

"So you'd rather waste tonight?"

"I'm not wasting..." Addison replied with a frown. She dropped the jeans she was holding and threw herself onto the bed, laying in the opposite direction than Callie. She curled an arm around Callie's leg, kissing her bare knee before nuzzling it. "Don't leave me."

"I don't want to leave you," Callie countered, her fingers tracing lazy patterns on her calf.

"We can't talk about you leaving...I'm gonna cry."

"No tears staining those cheeks...let's go for a walk or something. Ooh, let's go to the beach!" Callie sat up, her face excited.

"Now? It's after midnight."

"Yes, now. Let's get a blanket and watch the stars." She helped Addison to her feet.

"Who knew you were such a sap?"

"Shut it! Don't make me shy about it, or I won't pick a star out for you."

"I keep learning new things about you," Addison said, wrapping her arms around Callie's neck and kissing her.

"And?"

"And I fall in love with you a little more every time."

"Now who's the sap?"

Addison smiled into Callie's mouth before she pulled away to grab a blanket from the hall closet. They slipped into flip flops and Addison grabbed her keys. "We'll be back soon, Dez. No parties while we're gone!"

Callie laughed as she followed Addison out the door. "Dork."

"I know you are but what am I?" Addison said, her hand seeking Callie's in the moonlight.

"I can't believe you just pulled that out. You're such a fifth grader."

"You love me anyway."

"Yea, yea. You're lucky I'm a sucker for cute redheads."

"I just get lucky all over the place, don't I?"

"I'm a regular old rabbit's foot."

Addison scrunched her nose. "I like you better as my lucky bone breaker...the whole dismembered Bugs Bunny thing freaks me out."

Callie laughed as they crossed the street, heading towards the footpath that would bring them to the beach. "I had a lucky penny when I was younger. My father hated that I carried it around."

"Do you still have it?"

"Nope. I threw it in a fountain."

"Awe...did you at least make a wish on it?"

"Yes."

Addison waited for Callie to elaborate and when she remained silent she squeezed her hand. "Well, what did you wish for?"

"I can't tell you."

"Why not?"

"It's stupid. And it won't come true if I tell someone."

"That's not true."

"It so is. My mom is queen of that kinda superstitious stuff. She knows. And while I'm nothing like my mother it's one of those things that just sticks."

"I say it's only true if you put the power in it."

"I don't want to take my chances."

"Hmm," Addison said, laying out the blanket on a stretch of sand that resided beside a few small hills and a large pile of rocks, giving them a fair amount of privacy on the deserted beach. "This would imply that you are still waiting for this wish to come true."

Callie sat on the blanket, kicking off her flip flops before she leaned back and propped herself up on her elbows. "Maybe."

Addison knelt down beside Callie. "You wished for me, didn't you? You wished for a tall, pale, and gorgeous redhead to sweep you off your feet."

"Not exactly," Callie mumbled as Addison's lips hovered over her own.

Addison pulled back. "Not exactly? Does that mean I'm close?"

"Come on, Addie, I don't want to jinx it! I've got a good thing going...I don't want anything to happen."

"Awe...you wished for love, didn't you?"

Callie said nothing; she only stared at the star-spotted sky.

"I," she said, leaning back down to kiss Callie's slightly pouting lips, "am not going anywhere. I pro-"

Callie swallowed the rest of her sentence with a deep, soulful kiss. "Don't promise. We don't know what could happen...we've both made promises to men and look how they turned out."

"Maybe we were making promises to the wrong people," Addison suggested, stretching her body alongside Callie's. "But looking around every corner for some impending doom isn't going to strengthen this relationship. I know what I want now; I have faith in the fact that we can survive."

"It's not that I don't believe in us. I do. It's just...you know, we're a new couple. Things are all warm and fuzzy now but what if something changes? What if there's another Mark? What if I freak out and detach?"

"Those are a lot of 'what ifs.' You said no promises...so I won't promise never to cheat. But...the whole thing happened because I wasn't getting what I needed from Derek. My feelings for you so surpass what I felt for Derek. I am ridiculously in love with you, Callie. I want this to work. I don't know what's going to happen in our future. I'm not even going to try to guess. But I want it, no matter what it is, because it'll mean having you in my life."

"How do you do that?"

"What?"

"You say all these perfect things and make me feel like eight thousand times better. You're like yoga for my intense mind."

Addison giggled, stroking her hand underneath Callie's shirt against her soft belly. "Are you good now?"

"Yea, I think so."

"You sure? I don't want my lady freaking out."

"I'm not, dork."

"Good. Because I see myself with you for the long haul. And if you keep freaking out, then I'm gonna freak out, and then what will we do?"

"Book a session with Violet?"

Addison playfully nudged Callie's hip. "You and me, we're a team."

"Like a women's basketball team?"

"I was thinking more along the lines of softball, but that works too."

"Women's basketball is so the new softball."

"So that's why you were always dragging George to those WNBA games."

"Shut it!"

"For the record, I don't do sports. You'll have to bribe me heavily to get me to a game of any kind."

"What about a game of Battleship?"

"Like I'm going to play a board game with you!"

"Why not?!"

"You're the most competitive woman I know."

"You've never played with Cristina Yang then."

"When she comes to visit us in our little love nest, wherever we happen to shack up, you two can get your game on and I'll watch and make chip dip."

"You'll at least play XBox with me, right?"

"Uhh..."

"Come on!" Callie whined.

"I have no coordination for that kind of thing."

"You're a freakin' surgeon! How do you not have coordination?"

"For that kind of thing!! But fine, if it makes you happy, I'll let you kick my ass at your XBox and you can be the Alpha Dyke in the relationship."

"I already am."

"Whatever."

"See...you just let me win at that. I'm so the Alpha Dyke."

"Does that also mean you're the top and I'm the bottom?"

Callie giggled and rolled on top of Addison, straddling her hips. "So it would seem."

"Suddenly I don't mind so much that you're the dom," Addison said, gazing up at Callie's shadowed face. Even in the darkness she could make out the glittering of her eyes, staring down at her in a mixture of adoration and want.

"Good." And she kissed her.

Callie's tongue slowly worked over her lips, tracing them before sliding inside into the warm cavern of her mouth. Addison returned the languid kiss, lazily stroking her tongue against Callie's in a slow dance as her hands slid beneath the edges of her shorts. She gripped the smooth thighs and pulled her closer, encouraging Callie's body to drape over hers. As Callie's hand worked its way beneath her top and cupped her bare breast she moaned, her hips lifting to meet Callie's.

The resident broke the kiss, slowly drawing her lips down her neck and chest, pausing to suckle her nipple through the cotton of her t-shirt. Addison hissed, smoothing her hands over her lover's hair as she pushed up her shirt, her lips taking their time as they tenderly explored the taut pink nubs. Callie drew one between her teeth, pulling as she looked up to see the look of ardent desire on Addison's face. Her hips twitched as she felt fingers teasing along the button of her shorts, drawing the circle of metal through the hole and pulling the zipper down.

Callie released the nipple with a resounding 'pop', sitting up to pull Addison's shorts and panties down her legs, pushing them to the side of the blanket. The cool, salty air tickled Addison's bare hips and she shivered, though she felt this had more to do with the fact that Callie was now taking off her shirt. The air puckered Callie's nipples as her fingers deftly undid her shorts. She shimmied her hips, kicking the denim aside as she repositioned herself over the redhead for another long, deep kiss.

Addison whimpered as Callie began to draw away and watched as she moved to kneel between her legs. Addison grabbed her shoulder, shaking her head as she twirled her finger in the air. Callie grinned and did as she was directed.

After some careful maneuvering so as to not disrupt the sand that bordered the blanket, Callie's hips were positioned above Addison's head, her own head nestled between the redhead's thighs. For a moment Addison felt that she had drifted out of herself, observing them in such a foreign position in such a romantic, public setting.

The very suggestion of this position surprised her; she had never done it before. It always seemed rather daunting to her and now, as Callie lowered her head to flick her tongue across her clit, all that mattered was synchronizing her own ministrations with her lover's.

She placed several kisses on Callie's thighs, nipping and groaning as Callie sucked her engorged clit into her mouth. Her hips bucked and it was all she could do to open her clenched eyes and mimic Callie's movements, her own tongue seeking the other woman's sensitive bud. Going down on Callie as Callie went down on her was easily becoming Addison's favorite pastime as the pleasure began to mount, the little grunts from Callie's mouth muffled against the apex of Addison's thighs.

It appeared to Addison that one of them would have to come before the other; her concentration on pleasing Callie was waning as her own climax threatened to break. Despite wanting to let go and enjoy the feel of Callie's tongue circling around her clit, she couldn't give herself over to selfishness. She gripped Callie's thighs, attacking her clit with fervor. She sucked harshly, her tongue stroking roughly against her sex, and her own hips bucked as Callie began to moan softly against her. She could feel Callie's thighs tighten under her grasp and within seconds Callie was coming, her head resting on Addison's leg as her body wracked with waves of pleasure.

Addison's pleasure was not lost on Callie. As her body calmed she began to fuck Addison once more with her tongue, licking her to her own intense orgasm. Addison muffled her cries into Callie's thigh, her eyelids dotted with hundreds of shooting stars that mimicked the bursts of pleasure that coursed through her body.

When Addison reopened her eyes, Callie was lying beside her, snuggling her body into the crook of Addison's shoulder. Callie reached behind her, drawing the edge of the blanket over her nude form. Addison followed suit with the side of the blanket closest to her. They snuggled closer, covering their bodies from the crisp night air.

"Baby?"

"Hmm?" Addison replied, staring above at a large star that was more than likely some sort of plane.

"No promises, right?"

"Right." Addison raised an eyebrow. "Wait; what?"

"We agree that it's too soon in our relationship to make promises, right?"

"Right."

"Okay. So. I mean…in the future…"

"Callie Torres wants to talk about the future?"

"I'm serious…I've been thinking about this and want to talk about it before I panic and lost my nerve."

"Well we can't have that," Addison said, squeezing Callie a little tighter. "What's up, princess?"

"Seattle and Los Angeles aren't exactly in each other's backyards."

"Unfortunately."

"And this whole long distance thing isn't the healthiest or most secure way to conduct a relationship."

"I agree."

"Well, I just think we need to keep our options open regarding when we can't take the distance anymore."

"What did you have in mind?"

"I'm not going to ask you to come back to Seattle. And I don't think you should expect that I'm just going to up and move to LA."

"I would never just assume that, especially not right now. You're Chief Resident; I wouldn't ask you to give that up."

"My residency only lasts for less than a year. And then I'm technically free to pursue my other options."

"But I thought…"

"I didn't say that I wouldn't come to California. I'm just saying that you shouldn't assume that I will because I don't want to be known as the girl who does everything for her girlfriend and makes all the really important changes."

Addison blinked back several fresh tears and smiled. "I'd give up my job and start over anywhere with you, Callie. We can throw a dart at a map and I'll move wherever it lands for you."

"But you just got the job."

"There are other private practices and hospitals that I could get a job in. And who wouldn't want to hire the world renowned neonatal specialist who comes with a top orthopedic surgeon? We're like two for the price of…well, it would still be two but you know what I mean. I'll do anything for you, Cal. Anything at all."

"But this is all hypothetical anyway, considering the fact that we aren't making promises or planning a future that's totally beyond our control."

"Exactly."

"Great."

"I'm glad we had this almost conversation."

"Me too."

"Baby?"

"Hmm?"

"I don't want you to go."

"I don't want to go. I want to stay here with you. On this beach. All indecently exposed and whatnot."

"That would be heaven if it weren't for the sand in awkward places and Dezzie all by her lonesome."

"Awe…I'm gonna miss our little love kitten!"

"Don't leave us, Cal. Just quit your job and you can be my sex slave and I'll reward you with plentiful orgasms and sparkly gifts."

"How come I have to quick the job? I thought I was the Alpha Dyke here…that means you have to leave your job and cook for me."

"I suck in the kitchen."

"Not at everything you do in the kitchen."

Addison grinned. "Dirty…"

"I know. Since you're too busy snuggling into my rack, you can't see the halo shining brightly above my head."

"Ha! Halo my butt."

"You doubt my angelic disposition?"

"Yup."

"Oh you!" Callie rolled Addison over onto her back, straddling her once more as the tickled her fingers over Addison's ribs. Addison giggled and shifted, trying to free herself from Callie's tickling. She grabbed Callie's wrists and pulled her down, kissing her softly.

"Is it the future yet?" Addison mumbled into Callie's mouth between kisses.

"Not exactly."

"Damn. Long distance sucks."

"I know."

"I think we can handle it."

"You're worth it, Ad."

Addison blushed. "So are you."

--

Addison blinked several times, attempting to rewet her eyes. She hated crying; the very act exhausted her and made her eyelids feel as though they were lined with sandpaper.

She jumped onto her bed, shifting to the spot that Callie had claimed as 'her side,' clucking her tongue against her teeth to get Dez's attention. The lithe feline looked up at the redhead from her position at the end of the bed and slowly made her way over, purring as she stepped on Addison's stomach and curled up on her chest.

"Just you and me, Dez," Addison said, stroking her finger between the cat's ears.

She pouted to herself, wishing that she could have gotten onto plane with Callie, wishing that she could follow her. She couldn't remember a time that she had felt more alone.

Her cell phone vibrated beside her and she raised an eyebrow as she picked it up. She flipped it open, her face breaking into a wide grin as she looked at the picture Callie had just sent her. The younger woman's lips were puckered in a kissy face and the hand beside her face was curled into the sign language for "I love you." The note beneath the picture read: "About to board. ILY. Call u when I land."

Addison, still smiling, set the photo as the background of her phone and held it open for Dez. "Look, it's mama!" The cat purred in her sleep and Addison rolled her eyes, holding the phone for her own view.

Addison dropped the phone on the adjacent pillow and smiled. She was physically alone and yet…she had never felt less lonely or more complete in her life.

END.
