Author's Note: As this was one of the requests that required a viewing of the movie, I decided to write this request first while it was still fresh in my mind. I hope I managed to stay in character and stay within the themes of the film! For a nice, fuzzy, warm holiday movie, you all should check out One Special Night. It's like a personal hug from Julie Andrews. Go on…do it. Enjoy!

The snow falls quickly and persistently, streaking in dizzy patterns against the backdrop of a dark January night. The fire crackles behind them and the logs shift as embers eat into the burning wood. While the fire warms their backs, a cold draft sneaks in from beneath the door and nips at their toes.
Catherine is the first to break the idyllic moment. "I'm sorry, Robert, but my toes are frozen," she says, pointing down to her sock-clad feet. "You can't tell, but I'm trying to wiggle them."
"Aah," Robert replies, hustling to the side of the newly-purchased sofa bed. He lifts a pair of fur-lined moccasins. "Problem solved."
Catherine smiles and allows him to slip them onto her feet. "I feel like Cinderella."
"And so you should." He kisses her knee before standing up. "Hungry?"
"Famished." Catherine casts her eyes over in the direction of the cabin's kitchenette. "What's this special feast you've got planned for me?"
"I wouldn't want to spoil it for you."
She smirks. "You know, the moment you take the ingredients out of the refrigerator, I'll know what you're making."
"Not if I banish you from the kitchen."
She leans forward and whispers, "I'll only be by the sofa. My eyesight is not so poor that I won't be able to tell what you start cooking."
"You're being purposely difficult."
She wraps her arms around his neck and kisses his freshly shaven, lined cheek. "I'm quite the opposite of difficult." His laugh is low in his chest and she can feel the vibration course through her own body. "Can I assist in preparing this marvelous dinner?"
"Oooooh no. Not a chance. I just bought this cabin last month…I'm not having you burn it down."
She swats at his shoulder. "The longer you resist, the longer we'll be standing here talking about food instead of eating it."
His grin is smug. "I had a big lunch." Robert pats his belly for emphasis.
"And you'd deprive me, who hasn't eaten since this morning…"
"Not my fault you don't take lunch breaks like normal people."
"I was in surgery. I can't leave a child's chest wide open while I take a sandwich break."
"Now now," he says placatingly, cupping her face in his hands. "I wanted it to be a surprise, but if you insist on ruining it--"
"I do."
"--then let's get cooking."
She takes his hand and follows him into the area of the kitchenette, watching him as he claps his hands together.
"Right then," he says, smiling. "Are you prepared for some of the most delicious cuisine you'll have ever tasted?"
"And then some."
"Excellent." He reaches into the cabinet and removes a large bowl. "Will you grab the eggs, milk, and butter from the fridge?"
She raises a weary eyebrow. "Robert, what are we having for dinner?"
He takes down the flour and baking power and says, "Chocolate chip pancakes."
"What? Breakfast for dinner?"
"You haven't lived until you experienced my pancakes."
"I've tried them already, remember? At Murray's."
"But you have not had my chocolate chip pancakes."
"Wouldn't this be a more appropriate meal for tomorrow morning?"
"Listen, woman--are you gonna fight me on this? Or are you gonna enjoy a delicious meal with me?"
"Oh all right," Catherine concedes.
They stand side by side, passing each other ingredients and mixing and tending to the griddle, cooking pancakes until they're stacked high upon the plate. She lets him handle the spatula and instead sets the table and lights a candle. When they finally settle down to eat, their feet touch and they feed each other syrupy bits of pancake.
For Catherine, they're the best chocolate chip pancakes she's ever tasted because Robert made them. For Robert, they're the best he's ever had because he's sharing them with her.
