Callie jammed her finger at the button on the remote, elevating herself into a sitting position for the third time in five minutes. When she was upright, she winced slightly at the discomfort in her abdomen, but she pushed the pain in favor of hitting the ‘down’ arrow again.

The door to her hospital room opened as Callie was once again on the rise. As soon as she caught sight of her wife’s disapproving stare, she dropped the remote and gave an innocent smile

“Calliope Torres-Montgomery!”

“Whaaaat?” whined Callie, jutting her lower lip into her signature pout. “I’m bored. There’s nothing on TV and I’ve beaten Mah Jong like seventeen times already.”

Addison placed a large tote bag on the end of the bed before leaning forward to kiss Callie softly on the lips. She smiled, her cheeks infused with color, and sat beside her on the bed. “And what about the twenty other games that I installed on your phone while you were asleep this morning?”

Callie shrugged. “I hate being a patient. It drives me crazy. As soon as Madeleine is of age, she’s grounded.”

“It’s not the baby’s fault that she was breech!” Addison cried, carefully nudging Callie’s shoulder. “Be nice. Stop sulking or I won’t give you presents.”

Callie’s eyebrows lifted. “Presents?”

Addison laughed. “I knew that would get you.” She twisted around, pulling the tote bag closer to her. As she reached inside, Callie placed her hand on top of Addison’s arm. “Hmm?”

“Did you stop upstairs before you came?”

Addison beamed. “Yes. Our little girl is sound asleep.”

Callie smiled. “When can we see her?”

“Jules said she’d bring her down soon.” The redhead’s face swelled with emotion. “Look at you, Mama C…you’re in baby love already.”

“Just wait till we’re home.”

“I can’t wait. I’ve got everything ready. Can’t come soon enough.”

“Tell me about it,” Callie said with an exaggerated sigh. “I’m so restless. So…whatcha got in that bag of tricks?”

“Firstly, I have brought you sustenance,” Addison began, pulling out a large green travel mug from the side beverage holder. “Filled with hot cocoa…which I hope is still actually hot.”

“Mmmm!” Callie reached for the mug, pushed aside the cap, and took a sip. Her eyelids fluttered closed as the hot liquid slid across her tongue. “Delicious.”

“There’s also some food in here…but that goes with your last gift, so I’ll save that for later.”

“Awe…but Mama C is hungry…”

“Patience, missy, or the only thing you’ll be eating is congealed green goo from the cafeteria.”

Callie sneered. “Okay. Carry on.” As she watched Addison turn back into the bag she asked, “Got a portable shower in there? I smell like hospital soap.”

“You’re a surgeon. You always smell like hospital soap.”

“But this is different. It’s everywhere.” Callie sniffed her arm and pouted. “Plus I’m cold. A nice hot shower would be divine. Or…hey…you could give me a sponge bath?” She wiggled her eyebrows.

Addison rolled her eyes. “Don’t push your luck. I can’t help with the portable shower, but I can help with the cold.” And, with a grin, Addison extracted a pair of gray and black striped socks from the bag.

“Awe…my favorite knee socks!”

Addison nodded, standing up and untucking the sheets so that she could help Callie into the socks. Once they were both on, she kissed Callie’s left foot and tucked the blankets back in.

“You’re so good to me.”

“I know,” Addison replied. Dipping her hand back into the bag, she pulled out a bottle of perfume and a sweater. She spritzed the sweater before carefully easing it over Callie’s shoulders. “Now you’ll smell like me.”

“Awe…Ads…” Callie’s smile widened. “C’mere.” She tugged Addison in for a kiss but before their lips connected, Addison pulled back.

“Hold that thought!” the redhead responded, opening the front pocket of the tote bag and procuring a sprig of mistletoe. “Okay…let the kissing commence.”

Callie laughed and gave her wife a solid kiss. “You brought me mistletoe?”

“So your room would feel a little more festive.”

“Careful though…there’s a nurse out there with her eye on me and this may just give her the motivation she needs…”

Addison frowned and tossed the mistletoe into the garbage.

“Hey! I wanted that!”

“There’s plenty more at home, where there aren’t twenty-something nurses waiting to pounce.”

“I love when you get jealous.”

Addison hrmphed and sat back down. “I don’t.”

“You’re my only girl, you know. You’re my baby mama.”

The other woman smiled. “I suppose I could give you the rest of your presents.”

“You and Madeleine are the only real presents that I need, you know.”

“I know…but I like to spoil you.”

“Just as well that I like being spoiled.”

Addison pulled the bag into her lap and extracted a few magazines and Callie’s Nintendo DS. Callie squealed in delight. “Two more gifts,” Addison said. “Ready?”

“More than.”

With a pleased smile, Addison took out a plastic container. She carefully opened the top and tipped it slightly to show Callie its contents.

Callie’s eyes widened. “Chocolate covered strawberries?!”

Addison nodded. “Since you sort of missed our anniversary.”

“Who knew that the little one would come before her due date and yoga herself into an unbirthable position in the middle of our anniversary dinner?”

“Do you think we’re bad parents, blaming everything on the baby before she’s even a full day old?”

Callie tilted her head to the side and tapped her finger against her lip. After a pause: “Nope.”

Addison giggled. “I hope not.”

“Don’t worry. I think we can handle this. We’re going to rock this motherhood thing.”

With a reassured smile, Addison lifted a strawberry to Callie’s lips. She watched as Callie bit into it and then ate the other half herself. They both moaned in unison.

“You outdid yourself,” Callie said, licking her lips.

“You mean the bakery around the corner outdid themselves. I just put them into the Tupperware.”

Callie shook her head. “Shoulda known.”

“Are you complaining?”

“Nope! Not at all!” Callie quickly replied, reaching for another strawberry. As she savored the treat, she peeked into the empty bag. “Didn’t you say there was another gift?”

“Well…this is more a preview of a gift to come later on.”

Callie raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

Addison looked over her shoulder, making sure that no one was outside the door. With a wicked grin, she lifted her shirt and flashed Callie a lacy blue bra.

“Wha…oooh…wow…” Callie replied, swallowing the lump that had formed in her throat. She had expected that sex would be the furthest thing on her mind after her C-section, but at the sight of her partner’s lace-covered breasts she felt uncomfortably warm and tingly. “When do I get that present?”

Addison smirked, pulling her shirt back down. “As soon as you’re well enough.”

“I’m totally well enough right now. Picture of good health.”

“Uh huh. Right.”

Callie attempted to move closer to Addison but grimaced as a shock of pain overcame her. “Okay. I lied.”

“The bra’s not going anywhere, honey.” Addison tsked and, after moving aside all of her goodies, laid herself out beside her partner. She kissed her fingertips and placed them gently over Callie’s abdomen.

“Thank you, Mary Poppins, for bringing in your bag of tricks.”

“Thank you for giving us a baby.”

The two women looked at each other, smiled, and kissed.
