Author's Note: This is the second of my AiW prompt requests. It doesn’t entirely fit with the prompt, but this was the first thing that came to mind. The title is a reference to Macbeth. I hope you enjoy!

It’s there, in the center of her gleaming marble floor: a spot of dirt, no doubt left by one of the animals and missed by the men who daily clean the palace. Mirana attempts to turn her back on it, for it would only remain there for less than a day, but knowing it’s there sets her on edge. She doesn’t like the disorder that it brings, and so she looks around her. She could easily have one of her attendants take care of the mess, but even the idea of politely asking makes her feel uncomfortable.
She does not like to give orders. She likes to ask or, better yet, she likes the company she keeps to simply offer their services. The very idea of giving an order summons memories of her older sister, and Mirana shivers. Their similarities, though rare, still flow within her veins. It would be so very, very easy to order the spot to be cleaned. She can almost taste the words on her tongue. She wonders how it feels to be Iracabeth, always so quick to resort to her dominion over living things. She imagines quite easily that it might make her feel powerful.
But Mirana is powerful. She does not need to make such orders. She does not need to be like her sister.
She kneels on the floor and, her knees cushioned by folds of her gown, uses her sleeve to rub out the spot of dirt. She rubs much harder than she needs to-her arm aches when she is finished. The marble is clear now. She can see her reflection perfectly and as she stares at her own visage, she can see Iracabeth’s judgmental eyes staring back at her.
Mirana suppresses an eerie shudder and wipes away the stain of Iracabeth’s face. She feels like she can breathe again when her surroundings are pristine.
Of course, now she has to change her dress.
