Prompt: What if Addison doesn't like Arizona at ALL and isn't afraid to list the reasons why for Callie.

Author's Note: I strayed a little from the request here because I’ve already written a few drabbles that encompass that general anti-Arizona theme. I thought it might be a little more challenging to be a little more…subtle with how Addison might view Arizona. Hopefully this will be enjoyable nonetheless! Let me know what you think!

At the popping sound of the cork releasing from the bottle, both Callie and Addison issued a sigh of relief. They wasted no time in bothering with glasses. As Addison had wielded the bottle opener, she took the first swig of the Shiraz before passing the bottle to her friend. She watched as Callie took one sip and then another and then a third before she pulled the bottle away and scrunched her nose.
“Isn’t this supposed to be cold?”
“No,” Addison replied, shifting herself until she was burrowed comfortably into her pillow. “Red wines are supposed to be at room temperature.”
“Why?” Callie asked, passing the bottle back to the redhead. She lifted the duvet and settled beneath it, noting at once how much more comfortable Addison’s bed was over her own.
“I don’t know,” Addison said after taking another swallow. “Something about being able to taste all the flavors better.”
Callie shrugged. “Oh well.”
“Now tell me, oh impulsive friend, why you showed up on my doorstep at two in the morning and raided my wine rack before waking me up.” She pursed her lips. “How did you know where I kept my spare key, anyway?”
Callie shrugged again. “It’s where I would have kept it.” She swigged again and this time coughed after the liquid had coursed down her throat. “Arizona doesn’t want to have kids.”
Addison raised her eyebrows. “Wow. So…wow. That’s surprising, given her profession.”
“That’s what I said!” Callie exclaimed, the voice shedding its melancholic lilt momentarily. She slumped back against her pillow. “I don’t know what to do about it. Things are beyond weird now…it’s like…I don’t even feel like I know her.”
“What do you really know about her?” Addison asked. “I know you’ve been dating for a few months now, but it seems like she sorta came out of nowhere.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, Seattle Grace is like this hotbed of dramatic infamy and sordid affairs…no one really flies under the radar there, you know? And all of a sudden swoops in this cute little blonde, right when you’re still reeling from your breakup with Erica…it’s kinda weird. It’s like she was all ninja stalking you or something.”
Callie laughed. “Riiiight.”
“Everyone has a past, Cal. What’s her deal?”
“You don’t really expect me to tell you her life story, do you?”
Addison lifted her hands in a placating gesture. “As long as you know it.”
“I guess I do. Maybe.” She sighed. “I don’t know.”
“She seems like a nice woman. She really does. And don’t hate me for saying this, Cal…but what if she’s just not the right woman for you?”
Callie pouted and turned her attention to nursing the bottle.
“Just because she’s pretty and is a lesbian and hits on you after you’ve had your heart broken doesn’t mean that she’s the one.”
“How do we know that she’s not though?”
“The kid thing sort of solidifies it for me. That’s pretty huge in a relationship…and it’s not something someone easily changes their mind about. It could just be that she was there and that you fell for her and maybe even love her…but maybe she’s not the one who you’re supposed to end up with.”
“But who is?” Callie’s eyes brimmed with tears.
Addison tucked her arm around Callie’s shoulder and tugged her closer, placing a kiss atop her mass of raven hair. “I don’t know the answer to that, Cal. But whoever that person is will be amazing and will actually deserve you.”
“You don’t think Arizona deserves me?”
“Not in a thousand years.”
Callie sniffed. “You really think that person is out there?” She blinked up at her best friend, a fat tear rolling down her cheek.
Addison smiled sadly and used the pad of her thumb to wipe the offending tear away. “Yes, I do. I have no idea what’s in store for either of us, but I have to hold out hope that the right people are out there. I have to. Otherwise…what’s the point?”
Callie silently nodded. “D’you think I should break up with her?”
“I can’t make that decision for you. Can you handle being with someone who may never want to have a family with you? Are you willing to give up your dream of being a mother if she doesn’t change her mind?”
“No,” Callie said firmly. “No. I won’t do that.”
“That’s a start. You don’t have to have it all figured out right this minute.” Addison sipped at the wine. “Neither of us do. For now we can just…drink wine and play hooky and be there for each other.”
“I like the sound of that.”
Addison hugged Callie closer. “Me too.”
