In Character Information

Character name: Itachi Uchiha
Fandom: Naruto Shippuden
Timeline: Manga; End of Chapter 393
Character's age: 21

Canon powers, skills, pets and equipment: In his canon Itachi is a powerhouse; there are, however, restrictions to using many of his more powerful abilities. I mentioned in a question sent to the mods previously that Itachi is terminally ill-using many of his Mangekyo Sharingan abilities borders on being self-destructive due to the physical strain it puts on his body. I opted out of curing him of that ailment for that purpose specifically. As well, Itachi is a pacifist and naturally does not abuse his abilities. That being said, I have still made some revisions, knocking out his ability to perform certain jutsus.

SKILLS
Ninjustu: 5.0/5.0
Taijutsu: 4.5/5.0
Genjutsu: 5.0/5.0
Intelligence: 5.0/5.0
Strength: 3.5/5.0
Speed: 5.0/5.0
Stamina: 2.5/5.0
Handseals: 5.0/5.0

POWERS-NORMAL
Crow Clone Technique: A C-rank, supplementary ninjutsu technique that allows the user to replicate their physical form to confuse opponents. It uses less chakra than a regular shadow clone technique because of the use of crows as a medium for the chakra, and the clone itself is still able to perform the user's techniques. When the replicated form is destroyed, the crows will disperse and the replica disappears.
Fire Release-Great Fireball Technique: A C-rank, offensive short-range ninjutsu technique that permits the user to exhale a large ball of flames toward their opponent.
Water Release-Water Fang Bullet: A B-rank, offensive short-range ninjutsu technique that creates a circle of crushing water spikes around the opponent. It is very difficult to evade, but also requires a body of water sufficient enough to supply it, preferably below the target.

POWERS-SHARINGAN
Natural Sharingan Abilities: Are outlined thoroughly here.
Demonic Illusion-Mirror Heaven and Earth Change: A supplementary, short-range bloodline illusion technique that requires the user to have activated their Sharingan. It allows the user to-using the jutsu-copying abilities of the Sharingan-turn any genjutsu used upon them back onto its original caster.
Ephemeral: A supplementary, short-range bloodline illusion technique that requires the user to have activated their Sharingan, but does not require the user to have made eye contact with their opponent-instead, the jutsu is cast by merely pointing at the user's opponent. This illusory technique causes crows to flock from the user's body and turn into shuriken which then bombard their opponent. Similarly, it also causes the opponent's body parts to turn into those of their closest friends.

POWERS-MANGEKYO SHARINGAN
Amaterasu: Considered to be the highest level of fire release techniques, it requires the user to have not only activated their Sharingan, but to use the Mangekyo Sharingan as well. It is a offensive, short-range bloodline ninjutsu technique that dispels black fire as hot as the sun, which then incinerates everything the user focuses their sight upon. Amaterasu's flames are said to burn for seven days and seven nights, being extremely difficult to put out, unless the user extinguishes them using their alternate eye. It requires an unbelievable amount of chakra to perform this technique, and puts a fair amount of physical strain upon Itachi, also.
Tsukuyomi: One of the most powerful genjutsu in existence, it is a supplementary, short-range bloodline genjutsu technique which requires the user to have activated their Mangekyou Sharingan, and to have made eye contact with their opponent. When executed, this jutsu traps the user's opponent in an illusory world that is completely control by the user. Within the confines of this illusory world, three seconds real time feels like the passing of three days. This technique can be used to relive horrific events, or for physical torture resulting in the victim's collapse from spiritual and mental exhaustion, sometimes resulting in a coma. Due to the complexity of the illusion and the quickness with which it is performed, it is a technique that requires the use of a great deal of chakra.

WEAPONS
Kunai and shuriken would be brought along, as shinobi are generally equipped with these tucked away inside of a pouch kept on their person. Not many of either will be carried, however.

Non-canon powers: I am opting out of giving Itachi any non-canon abilities due to the fact that he has more than enough of his own. I would like to point out that his Mangekyo Sharingan powers are those that will not be abused, much less used regularly (unless circumstances border upon the extreme and Itachi has been backed into a corner) due to the fact it causes his body to succumb to his illness all the more quickly.

Canon history: Itachi was the first son born to Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha, considered to be a genius even during his younger years for his ability to quickly adapt to his surroundings and learn new things. At the age of four Itachi had already seen countless deaths due to The Great Shinobi World War. Rather than shape him into a mindless tool perfect for life as shinobi, however, it transformed Itachi into a pacifist.

Although, being who he was, Itachi was not granted the opportunity to back out of training or fighting. He came from a long line of shinobi before him and was expected to uphold the name of the clan, as well as do them proud by his never-before-seen level of skill.

Sasuke, Itachi's younger brother, was born when Itachi was five (and became the only warm focus of Itachi's adolescence). At the age of seven, Itachi graduated from the Shinobi Academy, at the top of his class after only one year. By the age of eight, Itachi had mastered the use of the Sharingan. He passed the Chuunin exams at the age of ten, and later become a captain of the ANBU squad at the age of 13. Shortly afterward, Itachi massacred his clan.

The massacre was the end result of the Uchiha clan planning to overthrow the elders of Konoha and take the village for themselves; as an ANBU member, Itachi had been tasked with spying upon the village by his clan. However, knowing that a coup would result in another war, Itachi began spying on his clan and reporting their actions to the elders of the village, instead. He neglected clan meetings and began growing colder toward the Uchiha, and soon his behavior was noted and, after the death of Shisui Uchiha-Itachi's cousin and believed-to-be best friend-Itachi was confronted by the Uchiha police force and accused of being a traitor. The clan lost hope in Itachi thereafter, and Fugaku shifted his focus to Sasuke. Due to the lack of successful ground being made in negotiations with the Uchiha, against the wishes of the Third Hokage, Danzo and the Konoha Council ordered Itachi to slaughter his clan.

Just prior to that fateful night, Itachi had learned of Madara Uchiha's existence, who was attempting to rekindle the flames of war within Konoha. In return for not attacking Konoha, Itachi offered to help Madara claim vengeance against the Uchiha for turning their backs upon him decades earlier. Madara conceded, and Itachi went forth with the slaughter of his clan, although he couldn't follow through with the order to kill Sasuke as well.

On that night Itachi embraced the role of villain in Sasuke's eyes and gave birth to Sasuke's yearning for vengeance. After telling him to survive in an unsightly way and not come before him again unless he had the same eyes as him, Itachi left and went to find the village's Hokage. He pleaded with the Third to protect Sasuke, and threatened Danzo and the council of elders as well by telling them that, should any harm come to Sasuke by their hands, he would reveal the entire truth about Konoha's secrets to their enemy countries. This sealed Sasuke's protection, and with nothing further to accomplish within Konoha, Itachi left and permanently joined the ranks of Akatsuki, where he could keep an eye on Sasuke, Madara, the village and the elders.

Although it is of minor importance, Itachi is said to be the reason Orochimaru fled the Akatsuki organization-this occurred after Orochimaru's failed attempt at possessing Itachi, resulting in Itachi catching Orochimaru in a genjutsu, as well as severing his left hand as punishment for such an act. As well, there is bad blood between Itachi and Deidara, as the conditions for Deidara agreeing to join Akatsuki were that he be defeated in battle, which Itachi managed to pull off effortlessly, nearly causing Deidara to kill himself using his own explosions.

After Sasuke had abandoned Konoha to pursue a life of vengeance, Itachi sought Sasuke out and told him to meet with him at the abandoned Uchiha Stronghold, where their final encounter-and much awaited confrontation-would finally take place. It is here that Itachi succeeded in removing Orochimaru's curse seal from Sasuke, and it is also the place where Itachi was defeated. Moments prior to his collapse and passing away (from his battle with Sasuke as much as from his terminal illness) Itachi was able to successfully transfer Amaterasu into Sasuke's eyes and seal it there, where it would be released later on in the event Sasuke met with Madara Uchiha-a last effort to protect his little brother.

Personality: Itachi has never been one to wear his true emotions in plain view for all to see. As a shinobi he was taught from a very young age to detach himself from his surroundings, a practice which became habit over time, resulting in a mask that not even his little brother could see through. Despite being something of a mystery, however, much has been revealed about the motives behind his actions in the series.

As a child only four years of age, Itachi was exposed to a great deal of bloodshed and death on account of The Great Shinobi World War. Rather than desensitizing Itachi, witnessing so many deaths transformed him into a pacifist. Death, for the most part, was senseless, serving no purpose and, instead, wasting life that had once been meaningful. Despite his new beliefs, he was still a shinobi and-still the prodigy of the Uchiha clan-he was constantly driven to exceed the expectations of being both. Later on this resulted in Itachi's betrayal of his clan to Konoha, the reason being that he did not wish to see another war break out. The instigators-the Uchiha clan-were put to death by his own hand to prevent such a war, though this came at the cost of mentally scarring Sasuke, Itachi's younger brother and the only one spared during the massacre, and arguably scarring Itachi himself.

Itachi exchanged his brother's love for his hatred in hopes of protecting Sasuke from the rancor of the village and with every intention of turning him into a sort of hero in their eyes-doing so would have redeemed the name of their clan and would have paved the way to a better future for Sasuke. In doing this, Itachi was required to lie to Sasuke, and he was required to uphold the lie from the moment he abandoned the village at the age of thirteen, to the moment he died at the age of twenty-one. This tells us that Itachi is a very compassionate brother and, although his methods are completely unorthodox and more than a little bit twisted, it demonstrates Itachi's level of will power and self-control.

As Itachi matured he developed a more apathetic persona. This led to people seeing him as ruthless and cold, neither beliefs of which can be justified;in the heat of battle Itachi does his best to avoid killing where he can help it, or to end the confrontation as quickly as possible. He rarely underestimates his opponents, shows little-to-no surprise when they catch him off guard, displays a great level of intuition (likely heightened due to his mastery of the Sharingan), is impeccably hard to deceive, remarkably intelligent to the point of being considered a genius, is always respectful, and is loyal when he honestly commits to something.

Above all else, however, the most fundamental aspect of Itachi's personality is the love he has for his younger brother. This love drove him to be sure he was executed by Sasuke and no one else, as it had drove him to join the Akatsuki when he was younger, so that he could watch over Sasuke, Madara, and the village elders, as well as ensure that Sasuke lived and grew strong enough to protect himself.

If your character is 13 years of age or younger, please post requested information here: N/A

Why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? I feel Itachi, as a master of illusion, would be an interesting character to play in a setting controlled by a fog that causes all sorts of strange things to happen, especially hallucinations.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample: [There is a soft, mechanical hiss as Itachi toys with the Forge he has come into possession of. It is not unalike machinery he has seen before, but somehow the design seems more primitive, and much harsher on the eyes than anything else of its sort he has encountered. He quietly speaks to himself, seeming to be reciting his discoveries aloud to keep track of them, although the words do not translate audibly over the speaker. Instead what is heard is more like a soft, human hum...

After a few more moments of this, Itachi sighs softly. It seems he is aware now that the device is recording, and he opts to send a message out after he has taken a moment to think of what he would like to say.]

...Please respond promptly if you are able to hear this message.

[Yes, he supposes that is a good beginning, and without further delay he continues, his voice remaining checked and without a hitch of the concern that would pollute most new arrivals' tones.]

My name is Itachi Uchiha-I am not sure where I am, or how I came to be here. Any information regarding either would be greatly appreciated, if it is available. Similarly, it would be very helpful if someone could tell me who is in charge of this place, and where I might find that person.

[Itachi allows for silence to hang in the air for a moment, seemingly analyzing the device again, this time (quite probably) for a switch that will stop the recording. After finding what it was he was looking for, or seeming to, he rests his index finger-which produces another muffled hiss-against the appropriate button on the front of the hand-held device.]

...My gratitude is extended in advance to anyone who so chooses to help me.

[Pressing the button, Itachi completes the post and the audio feed cuts off cleanly.]

Third Person Sample: Itachi lay and listen for a long time to the silence that hedged him in. Silence was meant to be a thing not heard, but when you were not meant to hear, were not meant to possess that level of awareness-were meant to be dead, in fact-then silence rang in your ears as loud as any alarm.

He listened to it for a time and pondered behind closed eyes whether or not he was truly dead or alive. The answer seemed obvious, as it should be. Nevertheless, he found himself assessing over and over again what had happened, as well as appraising what he was experiencing now, as if expecting to find fault in his observations, something he had managed to overlook before. After all, logic dictated that the dead could not rise again-however, experience told him that logic was sometimes mistaken.

There were shinobi, after all, that had found loopholes, had exceeded the normal life expectancy of a human... not that he had any reason to believe he was one of those fortunate ones. He had died as he had intended to, at the hands of his younger brother, Sasuke-hadn't he?

Not for the first time, Itachi opened his eyes. A foreign ceiling hung above him, colored by age, much the same as the stark walls. An unfamiliar scent hung in the air-heady, with metallic undercurrents-and the lighting was minimal, the only illumination coming from an oddly shaped light fixture welded onto a metal skeletal column pressed flush with the wall. He had awoken here some ninety minutes earlier with the vague recollection of having passed through a large archway, but that was nowhere to be seen for the moment, and instead the only company he had was an odd device sitting next to him upon a tiny, square shaped table.

He had avoided the strange instrument until now, had avoided facing the reality of this unusual room, but there was no longer any way he could prolong coming to terms with his present situation, no longer any way he could convince himself this was some sort of illusory world. As he sat up, Itachi drew the primitive looking piece of machinery into hand and turned it over, studying it. Slender fingers poked and prodded at various buttons, and when a strange voice came from the speaker, he deduced without further doubt that it was a communications device.

Although there lie a door across the room from him, he adjusted his position on the edge of the bed so that he would be more comfortable; Itachi had no intention of leaving to explore just yet, not when a means of (possibly safe) communication with outside persons had been conveniently left for him to find.

Plans for the Character in this Setting: I'm always curious to see the results of putting Itachi in predominately unfavorable situations, particularly when taken from his post-death point in canon-because, let's face it, he died prematurely. I'm hoping to see him settle into the lifestyle here and adapt to his surroundings, as he won't readily believe there is a way for him to return to his own world what with having died there. Given that he will be making it a home of sorts, he will be wont to protect it, being the pacifist and peace-preferring person he is.

Anything else? Be gentle?
