Pay attention to what the books say about where to spend your application money. As I recall, the single, best chance of admission for anyone is their own state medical school/s. State schools in other states only admit one or two out-of-state students per year, if any. After your own state schools, the next most likely admissions will come from private universities.
You are going to medical school! WOOO! Dr. Sexybuffedupman!
Yes, I am aware of that. The only problem is that Washington only has two medical schools (that I'm aware of right now). We have th UWSOM and Pacific Northwest University of Health Science, which just recently opened in Eastern Washington. Not only that, but since Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho do not have medical school programs, they are included as "in state" applicants to the UW. Therefore, application to my number one choice is all the more difficult.
My plan right now is to apply only to west coast schools. Trying to keep it local.
Ultimately, though, I will go wherever I get accepted.
Good plan. Sounds like you are on top of things. It's a good idea to apply to as many schools as you can afford to, but often, college seniors can only afford to apply to a few.
Average number is anywhere from 10-13, which is actually a lot. It's $160 for the first school and $31 for each additional school. Think I'm only going to apply to about 7, unless I qualify for some sort of fee waiver, which does exist.
