Yes, each an honourable warlord. If both of them were in war together against Oda Nobunaga, I bet Oda wouldn't be happy at all! xD In fact, Kenshin used one of Takeda's strategic moves which led to a victory.

Lovely long post! The Kenshin "making of" DVD is one of my prized pieces of Gackt treasure; the preparation for that battle scene is fascinating - as is the part where he is told (first) not to ride himself but to use a stunt double

Indeed that DVD is very good, it shows alot about Gackt and also teaching us history at the same time! - So yeah, he definitely should stand in front of classroom!

Hmm. after a bit more reading I now think, yeah the term snake DOES make sense now! ^^; The cunning Shingen seen through by Kenshin. -The smart guy! One point for beauty, and another for battlewits. Oh and add another point for how he gracefully sped all over the battlefield towards the snake.- xD

Yes, go ahead with a rework! I'll pass on the original text IF I find it. - Your PS skills are way good. so... ;)- But, I think we can assume that the text is already a translation. so *pokes and pokes* go KK, go show us some nice Kenshin, so we can have some sweet Uesugi-Gakuto dessert. :p

Thanks for the encouragement. I thought about this last night and came up with a reworked (more modern?) version which, independently and interestingly, hits one of btrswtsymphony's points - that "ashes" must be figurative for "grave". The more I thought about Kenshin staring into the darkness at the enemy and finding his thoughts actually at home, the more I liked this poem.

I will post the result as I can't work out how to get all the picture bits into a comment pane (it keeps choking on my HTML).

The sight of Kenshin and Shingen's famous moment must had been quite a thing to see for those who actually saw it. It just seams so dramatic... although i can't remember how well it was translated to screen. I'm actually re-watching the series right now so, I guess I'll be knowing soon enough....

For that first poem, it was curious that he was referred to as a snake, but, i think because Kenshin viewed him with such respect as an enemy, and taking what snakes are sometimes used to signify, i think it fits, in a curious way.

ashes.... I thought people were still being buried at this time - particularly leading samurai.

for the third poem - i think I'm missing something in that, so I'm not getting the full image - but it still has quite a nice composition. I like it.

The Sword and Blossom poems - is there another name for this book? are there excerpts from it that can be found online easily? Gonna have to remember to check out that site you linked - thanks for such an interesting post!

2nd time already! Good! For the time being my copy of the Making of-dvd is my biggest source of info about Kenshin. And internet ofcourse. I'm yet to start with the series =__

Oh man, you need to watch the series! Although, if your more Kenshin centric, the first 30 episodes will be hard for you to watch as Kenshin doesn't come into the picture until the later part of Shingen's (and Kansuke's) life. Episode 24 you get a small taste of Kenshin. There might be one more smaller glimpse of him but I don't quite remember what episode

Your captions are so funny! lol That scene where Kenshin and Shingen clash is probably my favorite part! It was very climatic when I first watched it on TV when it aired. It truly showed their acting abilities I think. Riding a horse and such while filming is NOT easy I think!

Hehe, glad you enjoyed the caps. It was fun to make them, the scenes of them being all so good and serious and yet to end with such sweet hug. <3

I can only imagine how it must have felt to watch it on tv when it aired! But from watching the making of dvd, it sure feels like the hardest and best scene. Even more knowing Gackt only did a test and then went on straight to the official take. I love it!
