A swift survey

Just wondering, does anyone use Twitter?

I don't like to make a habit of posting about work here, but I've been exploring every social media platform under the sun at the office recently, and finding that the amount of sites out there is overwhelming. We've just set up a Ning profile, which basically gives you all the tools of a site like facebook ( Read more... )

Gosh. Okay...

I've tried to see the bigger picture here, rather than simply dismissing it with "i don't get it, why do i care what someone had for lunch". It wasn't made popular with those type of tweets.

Start using it right, aggregating content, using filters, and it's a whole new ball game. http://www.tweetdeck.com/beta/

twitter is cool, but I don't like following heavy posters because important updates eg from friends can get lost ie I tried to but quickly deleted following the mactalk australia twitter feed. this is more a client issue though (filtering etc) - I'm using twitterific. twinkle on ipod/iphone is great

I use twitbin for firefox, but that is a baby's tool compared to Tweetdeck which I'm giving a try. I like the way that you've found a purpose for this tool (ie. quickly updating the folks back home as to your location - if only I could get my parents to engage technology like that.) I feel it only works when you carve our your voice and your following - I don't see that's different to any type of blog. In fact, it seems just that bit more intimate.

ps. ooh you have an iphone? Work just received new 3g phones - I can get one but I have to lose my current good credit at current phone carrier. Maybe I'll wait...

pps. hi :)

Then why is it so popular?

Sorry. I'm up for engaging debate, but the only argument the people against twitter is they don't know how to use it effectively, or they haven't used it yet are very certain it's of no use.

i'm really unsure of the role it could play in my life that isn't covered by either blogging (livejournal) or social networking (facebook)

if i didn't have these, it might be of some value, but that value isn't enough for me to bother signing into it.
i mean does anybody really care what anybody else is doing every part of the day?

if you can explain it in less than 3oo characters... is it really worth talking about?

I see your point about the role it could play, since you have facebook -- I don't use this due to a fussy sense of privacy (I don't want to spend half my day untagging photos for example.) Last.fm I find hard to network with. I don't know why, but it's probably down to the fact I don't use it enough (which I think is also down to the complicated interface ( ... )

Kind of. People are finding many uses for twitter. That's what I find interesting.

Some people have just made down right cool sites with all that data.
