SO, yesterday, I went to a Bush rally. It was very strange and awkward, considering how many liberal UU's i hang out with. And the fact that i was at a UU camp last week, which is the complete opposite of the people there.
Now, my political thoughts have been changing very much in the past few months. As everyone knows, I used to be a big Bush supporter. I liked how it was kinda going, and thought he was handling post 9/11 well. I agree with going into Iraq still, but dont agree with what weve done with it afterward. Even though Iraq is a mess, i still think it will be a better off country 10 years from now with a thriving economy. And yes we did go in for "WMD's" and that was wrong, cuz there isnt any. But we did liberate the people, and free them of Saddam, and their lives will get better. We just screwed up alot of things while there. And personally I think we shouldnt have gone to Iraq, we should go where the terrorists actually are, like Saudia Arabia or Iran. Im going off on a tangent. Ok so anywayz, lately ive not been liking whats going on, way too much conservatism, the amendment blocking gay marriage, whats with that? Were screwing up in Iraq. The economy isnt growing again as fast as it should be. And all you UU people are getting to me, im starting to see whats really going on and agree more with all of the democrat ideas, so i think im really instead of a liberal republican,, im more of a conservative Democrat? cuz i still agree with some republican ideas. no im not a conservative. Im a democrat. I hate picking a side, i should just be independant. yeah, and my brother has been volunteering at the AZ Democratic office, so he tells me alot, and my dad and him always have political discussions that i listen in on. But anywayz, I've decided I WILL be voting for Kerry.
So back to the rally, we get there, and we see my brothers friend, kevin wonder, a huge liberal and democrat, which is great, cuz we got to joke around during the speech with him.
But right outside the entrance, there are protestors, with signs and stuff. and i actually saw chris weilinski there, and i was like hey! im going undercover! some spy work. and we told the guys good job, and that we were spying. so wow we were right in enemy territory, everyone with bush/cheney shirts stickers and signs, it was crazy. in the line someone yelled, "dont let the liberals in!". we laughed. we missed a few speeches, but we saw Mccain and kyl ( the 2 az Republican senators) give speeches. and theyre all talking about how great of a leader bush is, and how great of a president he is. and i was just in shock, cuz im not used to hearing that in the slightest. the whole crowds chanting "four more years, four more years!" So bush comes out, the crowd goes crazy. The speech was ok, but it seemed like he could really work the crowd. He could really get people into it. Some things i didnt like about the speech that we made fun of were, he said comments like oh we need to love our familes, love our children!. and the crowd went crazy. now who would disagree with that? yeah ok im a democrat and i hate kids. things like, we need to support our troops now more then ever. yeah sorry im a democrat and i hate the troops. right. few other things like that. His speech was decent, but it wasnt inspiring. He said things like "were getting the job done". not, lets band togethor and do this! theres lots to do, and we need to get more done! Now Some things i did agree with. but it wasnt as amazing as the crowd was putting it out to be. but it was just uncomfortable, and i felt disgusted because of how wrong these people were, and how misinformed, i mean he claimed Iraq is a safer place now then it was 2 years ago. Um are people watching the news, theres a civil war going on, hundreds of people have died in the past week. Yeah so it was very interesting, but i saw kerry, so i had to see Bush, thats how i view someone as being open minded, and how i try to be, I saw one side, now lets see what the other side has to say, then i can make an informed decision, and fight what i dont agree with, and know what im talking about cuz ive seen the man speak.
Now after the rally was the fun part, the protestors were still out there, i didnt see chris, but we joined in. posters, and chanting people it was great, right on the exit where everyone walked by. maybe 30-40 people on either side of the street. There was a group called the billionares for bush, all dressed up, with signs like, thanks for the tax cuts bush! billionares love bush! and of course four more wars, to counter the four more years thing. So we started yelling and joining in too. this kid next to us really got into it. Some guys walked by yellin get a job! and he responds i have one! asshole! it was great. the kid we met earlier, my brothers friend kevin wonder, jumps in front of the crowd yelling four more years as walking by and starts joing in also yelling four more years, but starts walking like a nazi trooper and puts his hand in the air like the heil(sp?) position like hailing hitler walking with them it was great. I started yelling the four more wars thing to the people. and some fat guy elbowed kevin, ran his baby stroller into me, and elbowed me, a strong elbow, and this was a big guy, so kevin pushes back, and the guys wife comes back, "dont you dare push my husband" all in our faces and so kevin responds "he elbowed me first lady" and as she walks away calls her a bitch, it was hilarious. Tons of comments being thrown back and forth, i loved it. ill also mention, cops alll over, cops on horses, cuz a riot could so have easily broken out. yeah so after noone was walking by anymore, we left, after a glorious time taunting republicans walking by.
and that was my adventure yesterday, all in all, good day, informative and fun.
damn that was long, i wonder if anyone actually read all that.
