when you drift apart from someone you were once close with, for whatever reason, what happens to the love that you and that person shared?

be it romantic, friendly, nurturing, etc. seriously, where does that love go? where do those feelings end up? do they just get recycled?? i feel so discouraged sometimes when i think about these things. but more
