Best/Safe Apartments in Gainesville

Feb 09, 2012 23:01

I'm possibly relocating to Gainesville for work purposes and have been researching various 1 bed/1 bath apartments that are reasonably priced, in a safe and decently quiet area but I'm willing to compromise, except for the eastern parts of town (anything east of W University Ave and SW 13th Ave). Does anyone have any suggestions or any good ( Read more... )

My friend lives in east side gardens and loves it. I believe it is 475 for a 1 bedroom and 525 for two bedrooms. I don't have the number, but they are located on NE 9th street and 3rd ave (the apartments are several buildings on 3rd ave between 9th and 11th.)

I've heard good things about Treehouse Village, if you want east. I've heard bad things about the area just NE of Uni and 13th, namely: http://www.alligator.org/news/local/article_1c4794cc-4cf9-11df-bdc4-001cc4c03286.html

Depending on your price range, you might also have luck with private landlords in that area of town. (Think Craigslist.)

I also would not suggest the area (Royal Village and the townhouses on SW 10th Ln) just off of Depot and 6th. I lived there and the neighbourhood was poorly lit, kind of run down, and there were burglaries.

I would advise that you visit Gainesville as soon as you have sure word that you're being transferred, and look around. I would also suggest upstairs, as we do have periodic rashes of door-kick burglaries.

Sorry that I've had mostly negative advice.

Oh, I don't mind your advice. I was a student for 4 years so I'm no stranger to the frivolities that Gainesville has to offer so any feedback is great ;)

I'd prefer being a floor or so above rather than a downstairs. I've heard nothing but negative things about anywhere on the eastern part of town and I can see why.

I've narrowed some possibilities down to some places like Oxford Manor, Hidden Village, Serenola Pines, Whisperwood Apartments, Piccadilly Apartments and a few others. It's just difficult to determine how good a living experience it will be based on mixed reviews and ratings :S

I don't believe that I've known anyone who's lived in those specific complexes. Another thing is that rent varies drastically and it's kind of important to know in advance what one is willing to pay. Lots of places go for outrageous amounts, but there are typically complexes (or, in some cases, houses) that let for much less right next door. (In my neighbourhood, some people pay 600+/room. I'm paying 350.)

I've been here since 2007, so if you have any specific questions about Gainesville in general, I may be able to answer.
