This Weekend. So I managed to kayak again Sunday. The kayak-specific rowing techniques are becoming more natural. I'm also exhibiting great endurance. The tide was low and on the in so I went downstream this time, and clear around the pennisula. I only saw on crane this time. I found this little cove off the river with some homes near the water. Some even had boat docks on the water (which was fairly shallow so no big boats). I was passed by several motor boats along this side of the pennisula. I found the going a tad boring. When you're on a wider expanse of water and the you can see the scenery a long ways away, there just aren't as many surprises. I much prefer the narrower secluded confines of the creek upstream. Plus, the surrounding trees protect you from the sun. Of course, the sun wasn't much of a factor this outting. It was partly cloudy the entire time....

I was typing up this journal entry Monday on a University computer when they experienced a partial power outage. I thought I'd lost all of what I’d typed. but I just discovered it was saved and has been autorestored by the LiveJournal Servers. That's nice because I really haven’t wanted to or felt like taking the time to retype it. Plus, the Calculus we’re learning this week is majorly difficult.

I worked on the new shorts Saturday and Sunday. It’s a little easier but I continue to make mistakes that make me go back and unravel work I’ve done and redo it. The printed pattern fabric I used this time looks good though. I wore these shorts Monday.

I finally talked with the instructor who teaches C++ this Tuesday and have an appt with him Friday to discuss my plan to test out of CSCI 150. I have studied my way through the first 7 chapters, and am presently looking at the chapter on Arrays. I figure a little studying and review and I’ll be ready to test out.

I’m going to be getting my leg refitted the next couple weeks. I met with the prosthetician this Tuesday and he examined my leg and explained what needs to happen. I’m still under VCC coverage and it will all be covered, which is good because just one new silicon leg socket is $550.

I’m planning on trying to write my first game program. It will be very low tech. I’m gong to write a text based console program (no windows interface, just the black screen and DOS command lines) that will allow you to play poker. It will have play options like choosing 1-4 computer opponents, play Texas Hold ‘em, 5 and 7 card stud or Omaha, and of course you’ll get to bet money. It’s going to take me a while since some of the functionality will be pretty sophisticated. I want to calculate the odds of certain hands appearing from cards shown on the table and of course, the computer artificial intelligence, which will rely on these odds calculations, will be challenging to create. I expect it will take quite a while, maybe 6 months or longer, since it will be low on my priority list, compared with actually class work, kayaking and the sewing I’m doing. I’ll have to do some research into probability (which I’ve never formally covered before) and codify the general rules of each form of poker. I’ve wanted to start this program for over a month now but didn’t know enough C++ to start. It would be easier if I already understood certain things (like C++ Structures and Classes) but I know enough now with my completion of Functions and my minimal understanding of Arrays to get started.
