Big Bang Epic Pimp Post : Members (part 1)

G-Dragon

G-Dragon is the leader of Big Bang. In the group he also acts as rapper, singer, writer, composer, and producer. GD has been in the business since he was only 12, and as such he's an amazing musician, and highly accomplished for his age. He's such a dork sometimes, but at the same time he's hugely professional, especially when it comes to the group. He cares a TON for all the members, and is always trying to get everyone to do their best. When it comes to his music, he's completely serious and dedicated.

GD is my favorite, which explains why this section is the biggest ;P

Basic Info
Name: Kwon Ji Yong / 권지용 / 權志龍
Stage Name: G-Dragon, GD
DOB: August 18th, 1988
Height: 177cm
Blood Type: A
Position within group: Leader, rapper, singer, lyricist, composer, producer

Random Facts!
- His stage name is a play on his real name. 지 (Ji) sounds like the English "G", and 용 (Yong) means "dragon" in English.
- Has mentioned that if he didn't go into music, he would have liked to study fashion.
- Changes his hair a lot. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
- Debuted in 2001 on Hip Hop Flex.
- When GD was only 7 he was involved in a Roo'ra tribute, called "Little Roo'ra". After Little Roo'ra broke up, GD entered SM entertainment, and was a trainee there for 5 years.
- Was inspired to get into music by the Wu-Tang Clan.
- Originally wrote Big Bang's breakout hit "Lies" as a solo song for himself, but was persuaded by YG to use the track for the whole group. Luckily this paid off when "Lies" became their breakthrough hit.
- He and Young Bae have been friends since they were 13, and were originally supposed to debut together as "GDYB".
- He and TOP knew each other from middle school, however they lost contact when GD moved away.
- GD is a famous perfectionist. For his solo concert in December 2009, GD spent many hours going over every little detail to make sure it would be perfect. He even went up to the third floor to make sure that the fans up there would be able to see things well.
- Speaks English with a pretty good accent. He used to study Mandarin Chinese, but has stated he's forgotten a lot due to not using it, and having to learn Japanese for their Japanese promotions.
- GD has spoke on an amusing story about how when he was a child, he went on an certain audition. He didn't want to do what the director asked him, so his mom took him outside, and pinched him all over for not following directions :D
- Released his solo album on his 21st birthday.
- His album release was delayed for 4 months, due to GD suffering anxiety, overwork, and depression from trying to get the album done perfectly in time. Due to his exhaustion, YG delayed his album, and sent him on a vacation to Europe for awhile.
- Was totally involved in his album, down to the album design, and performance outfits. He has stated that he even called the album designer in the middle of the night to add input.
- GD is friends with Junsu from 2PM. Junsu used to be a YG trainee, so he, GD, and YB became close. GD is also friends with Yang Seung Ho and Lee Hyun Jong (2NE1's stylists), model Lee Hyuk Soo, and the late model Daul Kim.
- GD has three tattoos. Two are on his inner forearms. The one on the right reads "vita dolce" (meaning "sweet life" in Italian), and the one on the left reads "moderato" (meaning "moderate" in Italian, but is also a musical term meaning moderate playing speed). His third tattoo is on his back, and wraps around his right shoulder. It reads "too fast to live too young to die", which is one of his favorite quotes. (I'm assuming he got it from James Dean, but who knows)
- Is the owner of a Shar Pei puppy named Gaho (his is no longer this tiny!), who has a huge following himself ;D

Music Videos

Pre-debut with Big Bang, in 2001 when he was 13, G-Dragon was featured on Perry's "By Storm" on the songs "Storm", and "G-Dragon".

Also pre-debut with Big Bang, in 2002 G-Dragon was involved in the YG Family project, "YG Family Vol.2". He participated in several songs, including "멋쟁이 신사 (Fly Gentlemen)".

GD's first solo after joining Big Bang, from their first single album in 2006. The beat is taken from Maroon 5's song, which is supposedly one of GD's favorite songs. Also of note, GD has performed a remix of his version, and the original Maroon 5 version, which can be seen here.

GD collaborated with jpop ground w-inds on their single "Rain is Fallin'". The single proved to be a hit, and was a good way for Big Bang to be reintroduced to the Japanese market.

"Heartbreaker" is the first single off of GD's solo album. It was a huge creative breakthrough for GD, and one of the biggest kpop hits of 2009.

GD's next solo video, Breathe, was a departure from his first solo video, "Heartbreaker". Featuring bright colors, and bed imagery, you could really tell GD had a lot of fun making this video.

The next video released by GD from his solo album was a surprise (no one expected this song to have a video). Using animation, this video is beautiful, and very fitting for the laid back sound of "Butterfly".

The last of GD's solo videos is "A Boy" is visually amazing, featuring GD's apple emblem prominently. Artistic, and yet meaningful (the song is about his journey through 10 years in the industry).

Concert Videos

GD's typical solo song is "This Love" from Big Bang's first single, and he's performed it several times, including this time during "The Real". I love this performance so much, it's the simplest he's done, and just amazing.

For "The Great", GD performed "But I Love U" as his solo song. I love this performance so much (despite not being a huge fan of the song itself), because GD looks amazing, and is a puppeteer, and it's pretty cool looking.

GD performed a combination of "This Love", Maroon 5's version and "But I Love U" for the "Global Warning tour". I love the combination of the songs he did (especially when he sings Maroon 5's song). The original video I found got taken down, so here's the same one, except with Vietnamese subs!

This is one of my favorite live performances ever. During the "Big Show 2009", GD did a DJ stage (where he played "G-Dragon", and "Hot Issue") before he went into "This Love". I loved the DJ stage so much, mostly because I love "G-Dragon", but also because it was super hot.

Other Videos

I love this video, because it's so random! He's beat boxing, rapping, imitating Lil' Jon, and wearing two hats and a hood.

In this video, GD and Dae are playing a game kinda like musical chairs, where they dance until the music stops, and then they try to push each other off the float thing. I love that GD just mercilessly pushes Dae into the water.

While bored on Shim Shim TaPa radio, GD decides to amuse himself. And amuse himself he does. The best part is that the others just totally ignore him, as they must be used to him being hyper. I especially loved how when they played "Crazy Dog", he did some hand choreography to the song. Awesome.

GD and TOP practicing "We Belong Together". I assume this is prior to debut, since "We Belong Together" was their first single, and this is not the final song. I love them just singing to the camera in a random room.

GD pre-debut dancing to the Pussycat Doll's song "Beep". I love that he's dancing to a Pussycat Doll's song. Seriously, that makes me life. Aside from that though, GD is an amazing dancer! I love the other members in the background.

GD's English is pretty damn good, as demonstrated by his performance on Goreal radio where he sings Chris Brown's "Run It". He's damn good, but possibly the best part of this video is Young Bae and Baby totally rocking out to the song. And TOP's in the background randomly echoing GD. And Dae's just sitting there... (This isn't the first time GD's sung a Chris Brown song, he also covered "Gimme That")

This is hilarious. GD prank calls Se7en, and hilarity ensues. He acts like such a fanboy, and then starts singing Big Bang's "La La La", when he's supposed to sing Se7en's "La La La", which is wicked funny.

Here's a clip of GD singing the "sexy version" of "Dirty Cash". Not really sexy, more weird...

So cute! This is GD's mom cooking for the members, and then having a chat with GD. I have no idea what they're saying, but it's adorable!

GD and Gaho doing things! I can't understand a thing, but it's adorable regardless. This is back when Gaho was a baby.

This video is both GD and TOP, but I'll put it here. This is, I believe, the SBS Gayo Daejun 2008. It's a special YG stage, with Dynamic Duo, GD, and TOP. They perform some classic YG songs, and it's amazing. I love that Young Bae is totally in the audience getting into it. SHINee seem to really like it too! Fun fact: the two dancers with GD on the stage were also at his solo concert.
