Travelling to and from a holiday is usually quite grim and stressful. The trip out caused jennyh and I to leave Cambridge at 4 am, deal with the lemon sucking check-in clerk at 6 am, be rammed into cattle class for ~6 hours and then faced with 2nd world bureaucracy and queues for 2-3 hours at Hurghada airport on arrival before exiting and finding that

That is shockingly bad! They wouldn't even have had to do anything to get that taken care of, your insurer would undoubtedly have started grinding its gears when notified and four days would have been plenty of time to have everything ready for a smooth trip back. Horrifying.

Exactly. What happened is unacceptable and inexcusable. They are a discgrace.

That is absolutely awful - I spent most of my consular career tut tutting at people who did not get insurance. I hope that you get some sort of compensation and that you have a speedy recovery.

Thank you. I am currently trying to work out the best way of dealing with the compensation issue. It is undoubtedly due having now experienced this fiasco, and there is also the injury that was caused by their negligence and the ruined holiday itself to consider. I also want to establish the full extent of the injuries and liklihood for recovery before starting down that path.

I am furious that they ignored my requests to contact my insurers and botched everything they touched
