Coughing...

Nov 23, 2006 20:53

Some of you may remember Bee had conjunctivitis a week back, well, that's cleared up but she's now got an awful cough, I mean 80 cigarettes a day awful. I took her to the Dr. the other day and her chest was clear, apparently it is a build up of mucous catching in the back of her throat. However, the last three nights she's woken herself up coughing ( Read more... )

Aw poor Bee :-(

Personally I'd wait a couple of days to see if there is any improvement. Obviously if she got worse, stopped eating, started vomiting etc. then take her straight back for an emergency appointment.

You're her mum nd you know her best, if something isn't right to you then go back and keep going back until you are reassured she's ok or they do something about it. It could be her breathing has got more snuffly cos she's sleepy?

Just keep offering lots of boob nd cuddles and see how she goes xx

(oh sorry for deleting your comment on my journal, just we haven't spoken to parents yet and my mum has been reading my journal a lot lately!)

"Symptoms of croup often worsen at night and when the child is upset or crying. In addition to the effects on the upper airway, the infections that cause croup can result in inflammation further down the airway, including the bronchi (breathing tubes) and the lungs."

Thank you for the link, yes - definitely Croup then, she is better during the day but not brilliant, gah.
No worries about deleting the comment, I wasn't sure whether things had been revealed so I didn't want to be too obvious ... How are you? Let me know how it goes with the rents, I truly hope they are pleased for you, but like I said before, if they aren't you know you will be fine!

Thank you for your honesty!
After waking up last night and coughing terribly, she settled down and slept through till 6-30, it is impossible to know what to do.
I read the link below on Bronchitis and Bee isn't showing any of the other symptoms, apart from the persistent cough. I called the NHS direct people and they told me to keep an eye on her temperature and skin colour, both of which I'm now doing.

Thank you so much for your advice tho', it is reassuring to hear from other mums, and thus far you've all been more informative than my Dr!

Phoenix has just had a bad bought of brochiolitis which started off as a cough that just wouldnt shift. I've put the link in so you can look up symptoms but Id say to foillow your mothering instinct. You'll know if you're child is sick and if youre at all worried take them to A & E. Id rather be sent away a dozen times than go through what I went through last week with Phoenix.
I hope she feels better soon.

Thank you for the link, Bee only has the persistent cough and cold like symptoms, I've been advised to keep an eye on her colour and her breathing, hopefully she'll be ok!
Sorry to hear about Phoenix, is he any better? How are you finding it?

I would take her back every day til it goes! Though I had a Dr who insisted on that kind of behaviour where children were involved, rest his soul :(

Fab Dr
Mine sneers at me and plays the "over-protective parent" card, even though in her entire 10 months of living I've taken her to the Dr's twice, once she had conjunctivitis and once when she had a terrible cold. Both times they've done nothing only for the situation to get worse... Grrr!

Ez hasn't seen a doc since her 6 weeks check :-o either I'm an evil mum or she's been lucky with the illnesses. Poor Bee is prob a bit run down with one illness to fight after the other. I've yet to find a doctor at the practice that I like anyway, the worst used to have to check with his collegues every five minutes and kept prescribing me drugs that were unsuitable to take in pregnancy despite me pointing out a rather obvious bump!

Anyways, I'm ok although was sick this morning but that was from not eating my breakfast soon enough. Feeling much better for it now tho!
