Ella hasn't had her daily nap for well over a week now. I've tried everything to get her to sleep but she fights it. She's nearly 18months now and runs around like a loony, climbs everywhere and must be exhausted but she doesn't seem to sleep enough... Has anyone else experienced this ( Read more... )

I think that sounds ok, Abbie is quite a random eater, somedays she'll be really picky and not want much and others she's into everything. This is what she had yesterday:

Breakfast - Milk (about 6oz) and toast.
Mid morning - Apple, water.
Lunch - French Toast, water and a yoghurt.
Snack - Banana, water.
Dinner - Fish fingers, water.
Bedtime - 9oz milk.

Seems a lot when you write it down actually!

We had same issue with Amy re water but the hv recommended flavoured water... Morrisons do some in 500ml bottled (5 for 1.50) orange, lime and lemon, strawberry, blackcurrant) Amy loves them all and takes plenty.

You need to watch the sugar content in some flavoured waters though, some of them are shocking!

yeah i've basically let her get on with it this week (i drafted that post last week hahah) she's been going to bed at 7 mostly now rather than 8ish. I also forgot to mention she has a snack in the afternoon usually a bit of fruit or yoghurt coated rasins and she may have milk in the afternoon too. c

Well Amy has..

Breakfast - 7oz bottle of Full fat milk (though she'll take anywhere between half and the whole bottle).. She'll then either have a bowl of cereal or porridge.. and sometimes she'll have a slice of toast... or she'll have some slices of Apple and Banana with mummy.

Lunch Either Sandwhich and Water or fishfingers/potato waffle and water

Dinner Either potato waffle and fish finger (if she didnt have it at lunch) or mince with potatoes and vegetables and gravy or a jar of baby food (such as veg pasta etc). with water followed by a desert (custard pot or yoghurt or fruitpura or something like that

Snacks may be yoghurt, bits of cheese.. if my parents had their way she'd have crisps/chocolate/biscuits as treats but I try to control that by getting Goodies "no junk" crisps and the biscuits which are only swetened by fruit.

Supper 8oz Milk - she takes the bottle herself but likes to be sat on either mine or Daves knee for a cuddle.. 9/10 she'll finish the bottle lay back and thats her till the next morning!

Oh and Amy is a bit of a nightmare for taking naps too.. She'll desperately need one (rubbing eyes, grizzling etc) but she'll try and fight it.. i'd say about 50% of the time I win as for some reason having her laid accross my legs whilst I rub her head/tummy is a sure way of getting her asleep hehe..

When she does nap she'll be down between 40 mins and 2 hours - if she has the 2 hours then we get her ready for bed a bit later (8/8:30pm rather than 7/7:30pm) and it usually works out quite well ;o)

Just wanted to say that it really isn't recommended that you give a child of her age cups of tea. The caffeine can inhibit iron absorbtion and from what I remember reading they shouldn't be allowed it until the age of around 5. Would be better to give her some diluted orange juice (vit c helps with iron absorbtion) or some milk.

As for sleeping I'd keep offering her the chance to have a nap or some quiet time cuddling up with you but if she really doesn't want it then don't get too stressed out about it. As other people have said, she'll probably just want to go to bed a bit earlier in the evenings :-)

tis definitely one of those things where they say one thing and then reccomend another... as you said it's about your own decisions... i didn't know that tea was bad for a kiddie so i've learnt something new lol
