there were no sarcasm in this. i just took the only variable (for me) meaning of the term "free press": you pay directly or you don't do that to get your copy of information. the meaning "non-free press" in term of controlled/censored even didn't come to my mind :)
the press in US, UK and Russia is as similarly free as controlled.

I was talking more about being cautious of Russia generally rather than that this article is encouraging a cautious attitude. The tone of your OP made it sound like you don't even think we should be investigating the possible assassination of UK citizens on home soil. I would be in favour of an investigation, no matter who the alleged perpetrators.
