i've been planning on going to a doctor for a few months about some problems i've been having with food nutrition-wise. i eat regularly and pretty healthy but after 4 or 5 hours, sometimes i feel lightheaded and weak, like i haven't eaten anything at all. and some things just make me feel ill that really shouldn't. like for example, last night, ( Read more... )

I'm going to a nutritionist. I really like her, but it's free, and I don't know that I think it's worth what they would charge otherwise. As far as eating is concerned 4-5 hours is actually a pretty long time to go without food. She wants me eating little healthy snacks between meals all day long.

Brocolli is known to cause gas, so maybe that's the issue?

I think a nutritionist could help, so if you can find one you like and afford, I say go for it.

wow free nutritionist? that's neat.
i don't think it's gas because when i eat gassy-type foods, it feels different, and i can definitely sleep through it. it's a feeling i don't have with anything else. the pain feels like it's in one specific organ, not all throughout my digestive system.

well I figured you'd probably know if it was gas, but you never know ;)

That happens when I drink rum. The Captain and I do not get along.
As for lightheadedness... you're vegetarian, right? ...So you digest food faster.. but it could be a sign of hypoglycemia too. Hope it's nothing though.

i didn't know vegetarians digested food faster. my mom thinks i'm anemic or something like that but i dont know. we'll see. if i can ever get through to a doctor though with their damn month long waits...

I just mean protiens and fats take longer to break down, so you digest your meals faster, compared with, say, a meatatarian.

yeah, you should try to eat every few hours for sure. i get that way at work cos i go for 4 hours without food and my bloodsugar plummets. not cool. so... snacky snacks are the bestest. the broccoli thing i dunno. it sounds like the problems i had every time i ate anything period for years cos of anxiety. it's almost like it's too high in fiber and your tummy can't digest it enough and it hurts a lot. like being constipated maybe. it can even make your back hurt. i hope you figure it out! :-(

btw... i hope you had an awesome new year's eve in the bham. work seems to have taken over my life and it sucks i didn't get to chill at all before you left again. hopefully next time you're home i'll have an 8-5 job. haha.

we ended up not going to b'ham cause we didn't get our shit together in time. in fact, i didn't have plans till about 8:00 that night :P. i went over to sean's house (this guy that went to randolph who i know through a friend) and just hung out with a couple people there. it was really fun and chill. i'm glad you had an awesome time! i'll probably see you sometime over the summer.

i know exactly what you're talking about and it came up last week. all of a sudden this weird feeling in my abdomen after i eat. cant sleep with the pain and it does feel like it's specific to one organ. and it definitely HURT LIKE WHEN MUSCLES ACHE AFTER WORKING OUT TOO MUCH OR BEING AWKWARDLY POSITIIONED. when you described it like that my mind definitely went "whoa" i just had that last week. i hadn't thought about going to a nutritionist though. obviously i should. i mean we should! lol
