Isobel Kirkpatrick owns the general store, it's a family business. Her father, Michael, ran it before her and his mother before him. Her mother was a deputy in the Purgatory Sheriff's office, and died when Izzy was 16. Michael died last year, lung cancer. He was never in prison, he always paid his taxes.
Unknown to most of the town, Izzy has access to and sells on the black market. This is also a family business.
She has never been married, and has only one kid. Adam, her son wth boyfriend Danny Oosterhuis. She has a penpal, Donna Paakkonen, who she met via a school penpal project way back when. Sometimes, they come visit each other, and it's pretty nice.
She is extremely claustrophobic, hypoglycemic, and deathly allergic to citrus products.
Daniel Oosterhuis is, for all intents and purposes, a local drug dealer. The fact that he only sells marijuana to the local hausfrau doesn't matter, at least not to the local law enforcement. His father was a teacher, a science teacher in fact and his mother was a housewife. He had a relatively normal childhood, and he did pretty well in school. Steady B average.
He met Izzy at a school picnic when they were 14, though they'd seen each other around before. A small town, afterall. His first memory of her is of being kicked in the shins and called Danny Oyster House. He claims that he will never ask her to marry him because he doesn't want her to feel tied down to him like his mother was to his father, and she points out that the fact that they have a kid together makes that pretty stupid.
He is nearing the end of a 3 year prison term for selling to an undercover officer. Not a brilliant or shining moment for him. He's a pretty good guy, he'd never hit a woman and when he's around he's a pretty good father to Adam.
It's when she picks him up after his release that they run into trouble.
