Updatey bits

Hello oh long lost LJ.....I do still read you but it seems i have less and less time to post much useful to you

Well Leipzig rocked.

It was a slightly quiet one in terms of bands, But fun in terms of chilling out. Wandering about and having a girlfriend out there for a change. Made me a little less independent, but also meant i had someone to wander around with more and second guide through the minefield of foreign bands. That she is German was a double bonus as it meant i learnt more of the subtleties.

Bands : Cinderella Effect, Kirlian Camera, Brendan Perry (1/2 of dead can dance), Catastrophe Ballet, Veljanov, Leather Strip, Lola Angst, Cephalgy, Faith & The Muse, Modulate, This Morn Omnia, Lacrimosa, Alien Sex Fiend, Death of a Demon, Der Fluch, Ghoultown, Creepshow.

The find for me was Der Fluch. A German version of the Cramps who really knew how to rock and even pogo'd with the crowd. Could have done with a couple of covers for the non German bit of the crowd, but the music sounded so good and the performance so lively it still swept you up. Even got an encore ! Leather Strip was a suprise being just one guy who looked oddly Buster Bloodvessel and headlining the Agra, was disappointed and worried at first, but boy did he rock. ASF good, if on late and he does go on a bit.

Modulate did the Brits proud filling the WerkII to capacity when Suicide Comando and Welle:Erball were playing elsewhere. Geoff really got the crowd on board half way through bringing the lights up and taking a picture of them. He really was that impressed and happy. Cracking gig too.

Bank hols weekend

I had a cold. Was on the sofa the weekend. First time in *AGES* i'd not been out on a Fri/Sat Did Sneak out Sunday though to see Pearl Handled Revolver in Bedford for free at Esquires birthday bash. Was good even though i felt half dead.

Last Weekend

To make up for the lack of partying i went into overdrive and had an uber busy one. Friday was Schattenspeil at the Elixir bar. Meaning Shadow Play in German, it show cases a lot of dark and fun German music. Heard some awesomely fun, funky and occasionally giggle worthy bag pipe covers of tracks. Nice crowd. Good beer. Then on to Inferno at the Electric Ballroom. Think we may have gotten there a bit late as it was a bit quiet and the music lacking, which is a shame as i've heard good things. Odd to be back in an old stomping ground. Not much changed apart from rasing of the DJ booth, a smoking area out to the side and a Bizarre set of techno raping of good tracks to finish the night off.

Saturday was the Bizzare Ball at the Coronet theatre in Elephant and Castle. Nice venue. Full of all sorts of weird freaks. Good show albeit half of the Circus of Horrors, but the bands, burlesque and other freak shows were good too. Expensive drinks alas and a pain getting back home.

Sunday was the Rage celebration party gig. Initially a stop at Big Red to over stuff with Nachos and then on to the Coronet pub to pick up the rest of our bunch. A walk to Finsbury Park and met up with more friends. The park had huge fences and lots of security. A nice friendly dog to pet as you went in and a quick check you had tickets and looked a little like the weirdly squished pictures. There was a big fun fair, lots of beer and food stalls and a bit of merch. Not that commercial surprisingly. We picked a spot near the sound desk and headed into a fairly busy crowd for Golgol Bordello who rocked big time. We then sat a bit and dodged the slight dribble of rain until rage came on. Almost on time we stood up and then rage appeared and the whole crowd went mental with jumping. I've never felt the ground move like that and we were on grass, how that works i don't know. but *WOW*. We were about a 1/3 of the way to the stage and could hardly see the back of the crowd. It was truly immense the scale of things. Normally a mosh pit is down the front. Not this gig. The *WHOLE* crowd were bouncing. An incredible version of Bullet and a few other good tracks and then the encore it was all about. A cartoon of Simon Cowell introduced stuff in a comical way and then the Christmas No.1 and the gig was over and 40,000 people slowly made their way out. There was no trouble that i saw. Heard a bit about fans storming the gate who didn't have tickets, but that was it. Walked down the Seven Sisters road on the wrong side with thousands of people. There was no traffic and it was almost as big a spectacle as the gig. Glad i parked Holloway road and drove as public transport looked stressed !
