almost acoustic christmas

Dec 13, 2004 15:58

wooo hey there. first off i think i'm officially out of things to study and i started about 45 minutes ago. ok so after 2 nights of KROQ's almost acoustic christmas, and going on 3 days of my ears ringing, i've come up w/ a review. here you all go:
NIGHT ONE
ok so i only really knew the music because like some dude handed out 'the music' pins after the phantom planet show in like september or w/e. they were pretty good. the lead singer has amazingly strong vocals, fairly similar to Bono's. he also has sone like tight ass like raving dance moves. haha it was pretty crazy. hmm i think thats all for the music

coincidentally, my family friend dillon, who i went to the show with, had spent all last week talking about how snow patrol made really good music, but everyoen just fucking loved that song 'run'. well to an actual (kind of) snow patrol fan, the set was reeeeally good. the lead singer interacted with the audience, sang a lot of thier good songs, and finished with, you guessed it, 'run'. overall it was a pretty good set, they're not quite one of those bands i'd run out to see live, but if you ahppened to be at their show, it would be good....ha.

granted i went backstage and missed the bulk of the keane set, i did catch the first few songs and the last couple as well. they are very much a British band, a very European sound. Keane is a drummer, a singer, and a keyboardist. with me only really knowing 'somewhere only we know' i'd say keane was what i expected. not a great live band, as in like they didnt bring anything special to their performance, but all in all they werent bad.

ok, i've been a shins fan for years, loooooong before garden state, and ive intenede to ee them before but something always comes up. they were definately not what i had expected, definately not up to par. the thing with the shins was that their set like sounded like the cd, if you know what i mean, like they werent special at all. on the other hand, you're reminded that the shins are a band, like they have a gutarist and a drummer etc. I personally forget about that when i listen to them.

ok so i'm not the biggest taking back sunday fan, and i wasnt paying that much attention, i think i went to the bathroom too, but their set was high energy and i actually enjoyed what i saw of it. sorry this isn't more detailed for you tbs fans...

by far the best set of night one. it was so freaking amazing. they sang like 4 songs only, but yea i can't remember the first two, but they sang butterflies and hurricanes, compleate w/ piano solo, it was amazing, then they went right into time is running out. wow it was so good i cant't even get over it.

even if modest mouse wasn't one most overated bands this year, that set would have still sucked ass. namely because they didnt play 'the world at large', the only modest mouse song i like. yea so modest mouse uh blew.

ok well now that gwen stefani is an albino asian, ive kinda started to get pissed at her. the other thing is that like all the bands are male and there was just so much testotorone that her estrogen just didnt do it. it would have been better if it were no doubt and not just gwen.

ok, once again, ive loved franz ferdinand for a while now, and their literal like set like stage design was pimp (it was all like 50's modern orange and black) and they were really good, but like the shins, their stage performance wasnt anything special, it was really really good, just not special.

ok well i was introduced to the killers in about may from an english family friend and their my secret addiction. they just put on a good fun show, good stage presence and all. once again not really special, but reeeeeeally good none the less.

ok well heres the interpol deal: in general, their shows arent great unless youre a huge interpol fan. they have low energy and it actually made me really tired. yea thats about all for interpol.

best literal set of the show, they had all these christmas lights up and shit, it was pretty crazy. the like set in the playing sense was ok, i think i fell asleep for about a minute but i can't remember. the lead singer is like 'god w/ bands up here like muse, hey wait lets all give it up for muse. you know that dream where you show up at school naked? well its kind of like that but i feel like the prom king playing w/ these bands. well now i feel like a dipshit, but here it goes' and then he played 'the middle' and were like 'ahhh thats why you feel like a dipshit' yea it was good, good stage presence and all, shouldnt have 'headlined' though or w/e...

NIGHT TWO

this was a fun set. they just want to fuck things up. the stage was trashed. bert from the used came up and sang a song w/ them. it was pretty good. thats all i really remember.yea.

ok well i really can't remember the set in its entirety, but i remember liking it. bert mccracken is very strangly sexy, i dont know why. fun filled set, lots of screaming and jumping, you get the picture.

ok well i wasn't really paying that much attention, i dont really love chevelle, a little too hard core for me. the whole band (theyre brothers) is really hot. they sing that song that goes 'much like suffocating'. yea thats pretty much it.

enough said.

well i was back stage for most of this and good charlotte, but what i saw was ok, if i liked papa roach it would have been really good. they had a lot of energy and you could see that they were having fun, which is always necessary. yea thats all.

sum 41 had a really great set. lots of fun, crazy action.  they got the idea of playing songs people actually know, which helped out. it was goooooood.

the thing w/ social d is that they are what started punk rock, and they know that. they played their classic songs and they were a lot of fun. the lady i went w/, dillon, is a huge social distortion fan so that like brought the energy up for me. they were overall really good.

ok best set of night 2. i wasnt a big incubus fan, but like i know their music and they pretty much only played their hits and one new song. then the 2 guys from the police came on and they played all this police stuff. it was soooooooooooooo amazing. i love it so much. they just had that boho laid back feeling. it was great.

ok well personally i hate velvet revolver, but the only thing is that slash is just so amazing, what a fucking legend right there. he put on the hat too, that just made the whole performance.... but i hate velvet revolver.

ok well i was kind of disapointed w/ green day. they say, after their first song (american idiot) that every year at almost acoustic christmas they do something crazy like stripping on stage or throwing a christmas tree into the audience. well this year they played american idiot (as in the album) from beginning to end. i was so pissed. i missed the old green day songs. it was still good, yes, but it could have been better. i only really knew 3 of the new songs. but then at the very very end they played longview and that made the set. they fucked up their microphone too, it got all bent and stuff. but the best part is in this one song people start moshing in the pit and the security guards go to break it up and billy joe goes "wait, everyone stop. theyre not hurting anyone so just back the fuck off." and then waits for them to back off and keeps playing. it was good, man. it was good. <.lj-cut>

also i saw doug and jj and emma/emily (as in tyrer) at night one, and doug, jj, james and riley at night two. doug like cut my metal dectector line then realized i was in it and said hi. and on night two james and riley came over to me and said hi, and uh shook my hand....? haha it was good stuff.

OH AND DAVE COULIER WAS NEXT TO ME AT KINKOS TODAY. HE WAS GETTING BLACK AND WHITE COPIES MADE OF SOME PIC OF A BOY AND THIS DOG (LIKE IN THE SAME PIC) AND HAHA I GOT HIS PHONE NUMBER WHEN HE GAVE IT TO THE KINKOS GUY. HAHAHHA. if you dont know who he is, he was uncle jesse on full house (w/ blonde hair), the guy alanis morrisette wrote 'oughta know' about, and he was recently on the surreal life.
