strong warnings in the guise of gentle words

so i'm a girl, but i'm not girly. consequently, pretty boys do not like me. [it would be awesome if guys actually liked girls like the title-character of Juno.] because of this, i should probably become a nun. however, nuns are kind of lame. if i were a guy, i'd totally be a monk (they are much cooler and had better churches in ancient times), but ( Read more... )

For the most part, guys don't like girls with personality or talent. What they seem to want is a little pet to sit on their knee and stay quiet except for the occasional giggle at their jokes. Most guys, especially the "pretty" ones, want nothing more than encouragement that they are the all-time shit.

Heaven forbid a woman should give them something they'd have to measure up to.

oh Virginia, how i do agree. i didn't really mean to imply physicality with the term "pretty," i guess i just meant "quality," which is a far cry from what "pretty boys" suggests, so my bad on that. but you hit the nail on the head; intelligence is never a positive attribute for girls; some guys don't care if a girl is smart or stupid, but i'd be hard-pressed to encounter a gentleman who is actively looking for a smart woman. and if you do happen to be a smart girl, your ticket to fancy is to at least act stupid and giggle, like you suggested, not be sharp-tongued or witty. intelligence can sometimes prevail, but intellect hardly ever.

i do hope things are well with you! the cold in Boston would kill me, so i hope you are surviving.

quality boys are few and far between. the "pretty boys" are just and only that, because when you have the looks you've got nothing else to worry about i.e. no personality. this rule almost always applies.
