GET TO KNOW YOU BETTER
What are 10 things you do every day?
1. catch up internet things (email/LJ/a blog or two)
2. kiss my boyfriend
3. read/write
4. brush my hair about 5 or 6 times during the course of the day because it's long and prone to extreme knottiness
5. eat/cook at least one of those meals
6. look for my keys (I'm always looking for my keys)
7. spend 10+ minutes deciding on what shirt to wear (I have too many)
8. listen to music
9. visit with friends
10. play Scrabulous with some friends
What is the most important thing in your life? At this point... My relationship with my boyfriend. It's the best/most stable relationship I've ever been in. I'm treated properly and with respect, and I do the same for him. Will's just a lot of fun, and he's more lasting and interesting than homework right now. :)
Who do you live with? At school, I live in a single on a quiet hall. But Will "lives" here, always doing work on my couch (my single is huge - 19x9 so I have a couch/living room type area). At home, I live with my family: Mom, Dad, Kimberly (18), Molly (16), Christopher (12) and our puppy Snickers (almost a year old!).
What would you change about yourself? I would get rid of my depression and anxiety. It's something I deal with every few weeks, and go to therapy for, and have just become comfortable talking about, but it's not pleasant. It interrupts my life in very inconvenient ways.
What are some of your pet peeves? When people open you door, come into your room, leave and don't shut the door behind them. If it was shut, it probably should be re-shut. When people just won't shut up. When people can't make decisions. When profs erase the white/chalkboard and leave some of the old marks un-erased. That drives me insane.
What is one obsession you have? music! I'm a big concert-goer (not so much this year, because of money), but music and concerts are a huge addiction for me. I'm always looking for new music. And whenever I come out of a concert, I feel like a little part of my life has changed, and sometimes that's true (like when I shook Thom Yorke's hand after a Radiohead concert two summers ago). Nothing is more moving than feeling the music and being a part of that energy.
RANDOM PERSONALITY QUESTIONS
What is something you are good at? poetry. I'm an English major and got into the department's year-long verse writing course. Also, photography. These are two of my passions.
Have you ever had a broken heart (tell us about it if you have)? Yes. It's nothing huge, but here's the story. When I was a freshman in college, I had a boyfriend from home. But a month or so into school, I wasn't feeling that relationship anymore, and I met Ryan. So I broke up with the boy from home (thus breaking his heart :/) and Ryan and I started dating. We spent all of our time together. I was just enthralled by him. He was a junior, funny, talented (he played guitar and stuff), really really similar to me, my superior at work (very true), basically he was amazing. I honestly spent all of my time with him. I pretty much lived in his room. But alas, we went on winter break and he just stopped liking me. The break-up was really tough, and I hurt for a long time afterward. But we're good friends now, so I suppose it was worth it.
What is one experience you went through that was very tough? I don't want to talk too much about it (I hope that's ok), but one of my sisters had a lot of depression-related issues, and for a few months, things were really hard for my family. It affected me a lot more than I thought it would.
What are your friends like? They're absolutely ridiculous, both at home and at school. Most of them are very snarky, sarcastic people who enjoy bantering back and forth. And they all know how to have fun. Being with my friends feels like I'm with family - we're all really close.
Show us something you‘ve created: this is a toss-up between photography and poetry, so if you'd like to see my poetry let me know :)
OPINIONS
What do you think about the FCC regulating the media? In a country where free speech is strongly valued, I think that regulation can be a little too intense, but also misplaced. I've heard songs where in the phrase "god damn", "god" was censored, but not "damn." I'm not sure if that's the FCC or not, but it's a little odd, I think. However, some things, like using racial slurs or too much body exposure... those aren't things we want our children to hear or see.
What is something you feel strongly about? Gay rights/just being gay. My best friend is gay, so we're always talking about this stuff. It really infuriates me that he can't marry someone he loves, but I can. And about "gay being" - I hate when straight people automatically assume someone is gay just because they dress nicely and are clean, or aren't gay because they hunt and do "manly" things. Or if they're a girl, dressing like a boy means they're a butch lesbian. That kind of ignorance makes me boil. I'm waiting for the day when people don't have to come out, when you can like who you please and it's ok, just like me liking guys is ok.
What do you think about uniforms in schools? Personally, it's not my thing. I went to a public school and didn't have to worry about that, but for me, clothing is a big expression of who I am. I collect a lot of t-shirts (often with snarky/funny pictures from threadless.com), and not being able to wear them would greatly upset me. Also, I would look horrible in plaid skirts or khaki pants. I don't see clothing as something that causes big issues between school kids, at least in my experience. Actually, I see uniforms as causing more issues, because some people (those who get into the school on a scholarship) may not be able to afford the uniforms. I've heard they're very expensive.
