Greed is the embodiment of his creator's avarice, given shape and life by thousands of faceless, nameless souls all screaming for freedom, to be released and no longer suffer the torture and pain of being bound to Greed's body. All of those souls belong to him, they make up Greed, they give him his power, they give him life, and he'll be damned if anyone takes that, or anything else from him.

The first thing one would notice about Greed is his charisma, hands down. He's a sly bastard, and he's got the silver tongue of a snake, so it can easily be assumed that, when he wants something--which is always--he gets it one way or another. You see, for the first one-hundred years or so, due to this very charisma, it can easily be assumed that Greed was used, along with Envy and Lust, to instigate the bloody feuds across the fledgling country of Amestris. Greed drew those in around him with ease, thus he was the perfect tool. He wants always to be surrounded by luxury, so his ideals and manner of taking what he wanted without regret, by using any means available to him, underhanded or otherwise, drew in the weak of heart and the power-hungry typhoons alike. They all envied his drive and his ability to not only talk about and imagine the grand things he wanted, but his ability to actually get them. Greed, with his serpentine tongue and dastardly charm, is an amazing public speaker, and has quite a way with people, though not just with his words alone. When you add that devilish or mocking grin, that wondrous physique, that tenacious fire that burns in his eyes, the unyielding ambition, and the unbreakable confidence with which he carries himself, it's hard not to believe every word coming out of his mouth.

And once he's got you in his grasp, once you're a sheep in his flock, how can you not help but come to admire him? The one thing that makes him the perfect tool for Central isn't in his magnetism, but it's in the way he keeps those he snares within his web of grandeur. Once Greed obtains something, once he's claimed it, he refuses to ever ever let it go. Be it a simple cat, a pile of gold, or a child he met yesterday. If need be, Greed will step in to defend his property with vehemence, which usually results in some form of trust and admiration that bonds sentient possessions to him. While this possessiveness is understandable given he is the embodiment of the sin of avarice, it's an oddity among the Homunculi, and he uses it to his advantage. The Chimeras he owned and sheltered in The Devil's Nest--the Chimeras he provided a home for--looked up to Greed and respected him as a leader because he protected them, he saved them, he likes them, and he won't let anything take them away from him. They feel safe with him. Others mistake this possessiveness as protectiveness, but he doesn't bother to correct anyone since it keeps them around… shit, why fix it if it ain't broke?

This possessiveness started to clash with his duties, though. You see, Greed loves a good fight. He lives to fight as much as he aspires to own everything in the universe and then some. He's the best melee fighter out of the seven Homunculi, and it's a fact he shamelessly boasts. As the Ultimate Shield, he often shows off his abilities to break through concrete, metal, and even diamond if he wanted, and while he doesn't boast the raw speed Envy has, he's still pretty quick and agile on his feet in his own rights, and when he does hit, he packs a bone-crushing punch. When someone comes close to his skill level, he's more than thrilled, and nearly ravenous with excitement because it's another chance to prove he's got the top spot, he has the best fighting skills. Against Edward in The Devil's Nest, he was so thrilled that Ed kept getting up, that he refused to give up, and he was such an amazing warrior that he'd even managed to kill Greed once. Greed seems to be able to instigate these fights easily given he has a foul mouth and a selfish attitude that grates on many-a-people's nerves--though he can, when the situation calls for it, be a bit of a gentleman and a diplomat, as he refuses to hit Izumi Curtis, both strikes a bargain with and honors said bargain, as well as feeling a bit bad when he thought Alphonse's older brother was dead. However, when his want to own things (and as you know, you can't own a dead person or animal) clashed with his orders to actually kill the things he wanted to lay claim on and feed his greediness, he left. He provided almost one-hundred years of loyal service before he couldn't take it, and struck out on his own to satisfy his own agenda and wants.

His greediness knew no bounds, and without the prying eyes of Homunculus, Pride, Envy, and Lust always on him, he was free to do as he pleased. While Greed lacks Lust's cunning mind, Greed's bright enough to get what he wants and needs, thus he freed military experiments, the Chimeras, and fled to Dublith with them, where he took residence in an abandoned building. The outer hallways were left in rubble, but the heart where Greed resides--where he enjoys the company of women, men, Chimera… fuck, anyone he wants when the urge strikes--he's surrounded by luxury and excess. He's a rebel to Central's cause, and he's damn proud of that fact. All they do is get in his way, take away things that should one day be his by killing them.

We do find that, Greed's avarice entails laying claim to even intangible and sentimental items such as friendship, leadership, trust, triumph, pride, and any other state of being one can imagine. Though this trait comes out more after he was forced into Ling's body and subjected to facing many truths he keeps buried deep in places he doesn't have to acknowledge, he will still act unconsciously on them. A part of him is, indeed, friends with his Chimera and the outcasts he saved, and he enjoys that status as a revered and respected leader, and trusted friend to them. He's not the sentimental type at all, being he… well... IS a Homunculus, an abomination, a sin against whatever deity there is, and even if it IS only there because he's a greedy son of a bitch and just wants it to say he has it--just like everything else--he still wants it. Besides, it worked out pretty damn good for him. He survived a hundred years on his own as a rebel.
