I'm of the school of thought that this financial mess could have been prevented, but that greed stood in the way. Greed still stands in the way, it's amazing. All signs pointed to this recession, if not the next depression. It's sick how little attention was paid to the real problems. Those in charge knew they had enough money to make it through the tougher times, but no one gives a shit about the little guy anymore.
My government is throwing around tax payer money like confetti, but not when it comes to giving that money to the less-than-wealthy. Something is wrong with this picture.
Part of the irony is that the actual depression is usually caused by people reacting to the repression by toning down their consumption. When the flow of money ceases, everything that is dependent on it suffers, liquid assets diminish, companies go bankrupt, and the vicious cycle goes on, feeding on itself. If people, and businesses especially, weren't so panicky, the economy needn't collapse.
