America's pretty much dead. Dynastic decline in full swing, baby.

Not really dead, just going in the wrong direction. Minimum wage in this country is still at like $5 something an hour, there is no way a person working 40 hours a week can support a family on that kind of wage which brings us to the point where they need to buy cheaper things, and in comes Wal Mart with all their Chinese manufactured goods which further puts North American companies out of business. It's a vicious cycle, and there really isnt an easy way out of it. I think a good start would be by getting the minimum wage upped to about $7 an hour. I sound more and more like a liberal every day :P

Except that if you raise the minimum wage, some companies and especially small-businesses won't be able to afford to have as many employees.

So now you have some people who are being adequately paid, but other people are just unemployed.

It constricts the job market, and fewer people have jobs, at least in the short term.

And I think it might encourage inflation, or at least accept it. But I'm hazy on that, and am not saying for sure because I can't argue it. :P

Small businesses don't normally pay the minimum wage as it is. I was hired into the job I have now at $7.50 an hour back in Nov of 99. The only places paying minimum wage are places like McDonalds, Wal Mart, and grocery stores. And just from my point of view Small businesses can afford to pay their employees more it's just that the people on top are not willing to give up any extra profit. I'm not saying it's like that at every small business but here at my work place it is.

Inflation doesnt need any encouragement, it happens weather we are having a good economy or not. I dont know the solution but I do know that America is becoming a 2 class society meaning that There is the High Class and the Low Class, the middle class that existed in the 50's - 90's is all but extinct.

gas prices are atrocious (haha, that was a word on my vocab test that I failed B)) my ride now refuses to drive some days, and has his friend pick him up now. Minimum wage is horrible too.. I think my mom was getting paid like 7.50 an hour, she had benefits, but not very good ones.. and she was working her ass off. Special Education teachers are not easy to come by, and they were lucky to have her. They just fired her the other day, because they didn't want to give her benefits. Making her have to go to the unemployment office to get benefits.. she's now a waitress. She's making more a night off tips and a $20 shift. Albeit, she hates the job. At 7.50 an hour, we were below the poverty level. nice of the school system, don't ya think?

Yeah don't even get me started Jazzy, companies have been cutting back so much on the benefits and the cost of health care is outrageous. I had to drop my health insurance because it was costing me $200 a month, it was just way to expensive for something I never used.

Spoiled :P Just to give you an idea of how much gas has gone up, when I started driving it was 1996 and gas was usually arouns 99 cents a gallon. In 2000 when I started my job I have now I did a lot of driving before I got my cushy desk job, and gas was $1.20 a gallon. Does something seem wrong with that? :P
