~* Personality *~
Haruhi Suzumiya is a girl who is spontaneous, upbeat, and hyperactive.
She can be smart, athletic and talented at whatever she puts her mind to, if only she can be given a good enough reason to put in the effort into it. She prefers to spend her time searching for new and exciting uses for magic; and if this means trawling through books in the library she will not hesitate to do so.
Generally she has no interest in sports and team games, but she is extremely competitive, and will challenge others at the drop of a hat if she thinks they are setting themselves up as better than her.
She has very high standards for herself, and won't accept anything less than perfection. This means that she (somehow) finds time to study for her classes and fights to be one of the top students in class, even if she isn’t particularly interested in the subject.
Her determination, persistence, and resourcefulness combined with a certain ruthlessness occasionally make her seem amoral and uncaring. She will certainly go long distances to get what she wants, though possibly not any distance.
She hates showing weakness and signs of vulnerability to others, and takes praise very badly. She is unused to having ‘friends’ and so can become a little awkward around the people she isn’t sure of. The people she is sure of get the full blast of her hyperactivity and will get dragged into her crazy schemes every other day.
Those she doesn’t like? They don’t even exist; she’ll blatantly ignore them.
She has occasional bouts of melancholy, when she becomes very cynical and anti-social towards the world in general. Her melancholy can be set off by the smallest things, even things that wouldn’t normally set her off. It lasts a few days and then she’ll be back to her normal self again.
~* History *~
Before coming to Hogwarts, Haruhi spent her life searching for aliens, time travellers and psychics. She found ‘normal’ humans dull and boring and had decided that she would make her life more interesting by searching for the paranormal. She deliberately ostracized herself from normal people and became quite withdrawn and anti-social.
Then she received her invitation to Hogwarts.
Awed at first by the thought of real magic and magicians, Haruhi soon became enamoured of magic and eagerly devoured her first three years of study at Hogwarts. She loved the possibilities that magic gave her and was determined to explore them to the fullest.
She also set herself up as the ‘Ultra Detective’ of the school, and delights in finding new mysteries to investigate around the school. This isn’t too hard at Hogwarts, though she sometimes moves on to a new mystery before solving the previous one.
Since the beginning of her fourth year, however, she’s come down from the high magic had given her. She’s found that wizards are really just the same as normal people: flawed, imperfect and occasionally quite boring. Even Hogwarts, despite the frequent magical mishaps, is really just like anywhere else in the world. Magic too has its limits, which she finds extremely frustrating. In the hopes of relieving her boredom, Haruhi’s searches for interesting things are slowly becoming more and more dangerous.
~* Roleplay Samples *~
Journal Sample: If anyone has information about the recent werewolf attack, please let me know! As the Ultra Detective of the school, I will personally uncover their secret identity and reveal them to you all!
(Was anyone bitten by them? I’ve been reading up on Lycanthropy and I’ve found a ‘cure’ for people who’ve recently been bitten. I don’t know if it works, but it’d be fun to try!)
Oh- and sorry for missing Transfiguration yesterday, Prof Ashelia! I was trying to unlock the locked door on the fourth floor and I lost track of the time. I’ll get the notes off Kiri later today!
Is that okay, Kiri? I’ll help you out with your charms homework if you do~ Or I’ll get the moogles to make an extra special meal for you wonderful cat!
Roleplay Sample: (this is Haruhi in a melancholic mood. Btw.) Haruhi sighed as, yet again, the pebble left perfectly circular ripples on the surface of the lake. Why couldn’t there be square ripples? Or pentagons? After a whole hour of sitting here throwing pebbles not ONCE had the ripples been vaguely interesting.
With a huff of anger she stood and, arms crossed, made her way back to the castle. Supper should be over by now and she wouldn’t have to talk to her scintillating classmates. With any hope she’d make it to her common room in peace, where she could get her Astronomy homework done.
Stomping up the steps of the castle, she heard laughter from one of the passageways on her right and felt a vague sense of regret that she’d declined the offer to join her classmates for a post-exam celebration.
But if she showed up she really would have to talk to them all, and that would just be annoying. So she kept going.
