Thank you. I've always liked Hughes as a sort of counter to Peter. I really was struck by his statement that he'll understand but could not protect Peter if he decided that it was Neal that was important.

Hughes knows how to put a person in the hot seat, doesn't he?

Two stylistic things I love and may steal: Neal's "I." and the word "comport." I'd forgotten all about "comport"; you just don't see it much anymore, but it's perfect in the context here.

My respect for your writing increases each time you post a new fic!
