kitten!

Yesterday I responded to this post by drummygirl, and today Iain and me went over to her place to pick up....a kitten!

Although Iain and me are what you'd probably call cat people in our mentality, until now the only pets we've had have been the fish we got when I moved in with him ages back. I've always been slightly unsure about the idea of having pets at all (the dependence, the containment, the owning a living thing, the participating in the meat trade by buying food, etc...) and until recently we couldn't have kept a roaming or escapey sort of animal anyway, because we've had floorboards up and a lot of work going on. But! Yesterday when I saw Jen's post I just thought 'oooh, yay!' and I phoned Iain and he went (for the sake of balance, Librans that we are) 'hmm, well, sensible sensible practical sensible...oh, ok then, ooh yay'. Now, all of a sudden, we are sharing our home with this little fella:

Awww! So small!

I like the dab of black on his chin. It looks like someone's painted a line down the middle of his face.

Probably wondering where he is, and what's going on outside.

Iain is glad to have another boy to hang out with:

Sharing food

Having a beer

Playing playstation together

So far the kitten (who hasn't really got an official name yet, besides maybe Kit) has: done a poo that smells like cheese, had some food, had some water, figured out how to use the litter tray, sniffed out the entire perimeter of the house, and played with lots of string and three different shoes. When he first arrived he was more than a little freaked out, but now he seems much, much better. Right now he is a bit tiredy and has taken refuge under the sofa:

Awww!

I am SO pleased to have little kitten here. He's great! I've gone WAY mushier than I thought I would about him. Every time he wanders off into another room and can't see us anymore, he goes 'meep!' and one of us goes 'meeep!' back, and then he comes running up to us as if to say 'oh, THERE you are.' I mean, like HOW sweet?! Very sweet. Iain is really soppy for him too, and Henri and Mez (who have, I think five cats now) have promised to give us lots of advice about what vet things we need to do, what food would be best, all that kind of thing. It is, perhaps, unnecessary to have a pet cat, and it is a responsibility, but I reckon it's going to be LOVELY.

Thank you so much, drummygirl.
