I agree with a lot of what's been said above (especially the choking part) and reiterate - DON'T PAY THEM A PENNY!!! If you hand over any money you'll never see it again. Get thyself to a CAB pronto and find out where you stand legally. Most CABs can even refer you to a solicitor for a free consultation. *hugs*

Heya UV.

Whatever you do, DON'T PAY ANYTHING.

Also, if the worst comes to the worst and they send bailiffs, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, LET THEM IN. If you let them in once then they can legally come back at any time and break down your door if necessary. They can also legally enter through open windows etc.

What you must do is kick up a fuss. I know this is gonna be tough because you're shy, but:

Ring E-ON
Ask for a manager
Tell them clearly how dissatisfied you are
Don't get angry, but equally, don't take no for an answer
Threaten THEM with legal action if they continue to harass you

They are making it your problem - you need to turn it into THEIR problem.

Take down the name of everybody you speak to. If they don't say their name when they answer, or you don't hear it, then ask. Write on a sheet of paper every time you call, who you spoke to, how long you spoke for, and what they said they would do.

DON'T let it slip - call them every day if need be.

Argh. I'm afraid I don't have any advice on this one beyond that which has already been offered, but I beam megadoses of moral support.
