I missed Durga Puja in Calcutta this time - I've been missing it all these years (four, I think) but this time I really wanted to be there and be part of a festival where the entire city is celebrating. It is a four day long festival and people start preparing for it two weeks in advance. For nearly a week every business is closed to make way for ( Read more... )

Hi :-) yea ... oops 'Blake' it is. I am fine still at NetScaler same team (Base team) same work (tcp/http) ..... Well nothing much has changed (except the acquisition) ... how are u ? .. jyothi told me that you got bored with talisma and now enjoying A9.com.

Your big boss Bharath from A9.com had come here to judge the casual friday winners and I came in a soccer outfit (just to freak out) .... and he comes to me and asks 'do u dress daily like this or just today ?' and i was too much immersed in the soccer game i was playing that i did not answer him properly ...

Convey my apologies to him :-p ....
PS: Thanks for adding :-)

The 'Thyagaraja Aradhana' festival in Thiruvarur comes close, i think, but then, I've never been in Calcutta during Durga pooja, so I may be wrong :)

As far as my limited second hand knowledge goes, Dusshera in Mysore is a sight to be seen, not a festival to take part in. I have been wanting to go for it once, and each year something or the other crops up.

How are things? I have a bunch of "Auto" jokes for next time we meet. ;-)

not a festival to take part in
yeah no longer...but it was good fun few decades ago...even now many do go to Mysore for the Dussera and it continues to be the traditional festival when all the houses still have Bombe(doll) Habba(festival).young girls (and boys!) line up their dolls as a display in their homes and invite their friends over. There will be an Aarati for the Bombe (dolls) and prasaada (some snack) is certainly distribute..these dolls are all the characters from Ramayana...and women sing (or rather used to sing) songs narating Ramayana during teh Aarti...

How are things?
Probably the answer is also as cliched as the question...Things are good at my end can say..

I have a bunch of "Auto" jokes for next time we meet.
lol... Hush hush! not in public...

durga puja takes insanity to a new level. deafening (spelling?) hindi film music (usually the vulgar songs) with road blocks is what comes to mind. I make it a point to avoid calcutta during that period...I saw a movie called the hungry tide (or maybe it was bride) and it had nothing to do with sundarbans, if you know what I mean
