So apparently Livejournal wants the maintainers of the UMBC LJ-community to choose one of their number to become the comm's Owner. This would allow that person (and only that person) to decide who gets to be a maintainer and to make large-scale changes to the comm, such as renaming or even deleting it ( Read more... )

I'm a maintainer, and actually have no idea how that happened :) I graduated several years ago and have quite a lot on my plate right now, so I don't really have any interest in maintaining the community nor would I have any opinion on who else should do it.

That said, I found this community very helpful when I was at UMBC (it was way more active then), and hope to see it continue!

Since you're the only one who took initiative over this, I'm saying that you should do it. But like you said, there's not much to be done around these parts.

I'm reluctant to throw my hat into the ring on this because I'm in much the same state as Mandiferous. I graduated from UMBC almost a decade ago and found out that I was a maintainer here after receiving the Owner-vote e-mail from LJ (although I do know how the maintainer thing probably happened: my room-mate was one of the comm's original maintainers and probably added me as one at that time). I mainly posted this because I didn't want to blindly pick someone, so I thought I'd see if anyone was already doing the things that an owner and maintainer would be expected to do (and I'm not entirely sure what those are ( ... )

Maybe we should throw it out to the masses as a "someone take over because we're old or this community will die" plea. I mean, I don't mind being the owner if there is no other choice, but I also have a lot on my plate and will be a crappy owner. (Although it wouldn't really matter, since this place isn't used.) I'm hesitant to just kill it, though, because it has been an awesome place in the past. But maybe I'm just trying to hold on to my glory days.

could someone at least run ljbook to archive what was here, in case it's wanted in the future, as a time machine? dunno if you can do it on communities.
