So after watching the amazing Veronica Mars episode (*heart* times a million) I have become obsessed with the song Edge of the Ocean by Ivy!! It's so good, it's the kind of good that fills your heart with milky ways and dancing doilies. Now that's spectacular!!! So check it out, check-out-face ( Read more... )

I'm listening to the song right now because you sent it to me! YAY! I really like it so far. It *is* evil when favourite songs lose their favouriteness. Right now "wishlist" by pearl jam is still my current favourite song. That glory hasn't ended yet. But I am quite... almost offically sick of "you're beautiful" by james blunt which, as you know, I was obsessed with for quite the while. SIGH! That's how the music-loses-its-favouriteness. and such. ;) oooh, a winking smiley! that was an accident. but an alluring one.

You're an alluring accident!!! umbrellahouse December 11 2005, 04:20:53 UTC
What do you think about pies though?

I looked it up in the dictionary once to see what the difference between and pie and a cake was. I HAVE NO THOUGHTS OF MY OWN. I rely on the dictionary to tell me what is what. THERE YOU HAVE IT. I am a slave to the dictionary. THAT. Is what a think about what a pie is.

pie: A baked food composed of a pastry shell filled with fruit, meat, cheese, or other ingredients, and usually covered with a pastry crust.
cake:A sweet baked food made of flour, liquid, eggs, and other ingredients, such as raising agents and flavorings.

Also, I don't really like pie. Except the pumpkin pie that srkriger makes. Other than that, I DON'T LIKE PIE. I LIKE CAKE.

SO.

THERE.

ASK A QUESTION ABOUT CAKE AND MAYBE I'LL BE MORE WILLING TO PARTICIPATE PROPERLY. SO THERE.

Do you think brownies were failed pies? Or imitation cakes? Or a sugary identity category all by itself that is subversive to heteronormativity? Essays = fun... and aren't taking over my brain... I swear!

Intersting point! umbrellahouse December 11 2005, 04:23:34 UTC
Teehee.. I enjoyr your analysis!!! So mud pies are "pies" instead of "cakes" because they get crusty? What about mud pies that don't follow this dominant ideology of pie-shapedness... and look like smushed goop, are they no longer pies?

P.S. Your crochet needle has gotten married to the salt shaker. Pepper is sad, and is plotting revenge!

And what about cow -pies? Oh, the humanity!

I haven't even thought of that!!! My God, it opens up a whole new level of analysis!!! Think of the possibilities... can I be a pie? Am I a cow? If I were a cow, can I be a pie? Are hippies really cows in masquerade? So many questions, so little brain space... Quick, to the batmobile of scientific research! (whatever that means)

That's tricky. I feel that at its essense, the definition of pie would include some type of crust. But then, of course, we have the trickiness of the hip-pies, mud pies, cow pies, and pie charts. It really is a category that is difficult to define.

On an unrelated note, Flora, I feel your new pseudonym should be Sasquatch Turtleneck. Please get the reference.

You thought you could stay away... but alas, you can't!!! This is the power of livejournal!!!

Don't kill me... because I'd be very mad at you... but what's Sasquatch Turtleneck? (I may completely *doy* after you tell me, but right now I'm sleep deprived and don't understand words or their references)

Do you have the Veronica Mars DVDs? In the deleted scenes Veronica is looking for John Smith and complaining about how his name is John Smith and not something distinctive. And then Wallace was like... "Sasquatch Turtleneck". And hilarity ensues. I recommend it highly.

Oh Veronica Mars, how you toy with my emotions... YAY!!!

And I think what confused me was when you said "on a completely unrelated note"... cause when I say that, I usually mean, on a competely RELATED note... so I was thinking of things related to pies.

For future reference, on this journal, please speak "Flora"... not English.

I think what you have unearthed is a new sociological category which upon attempting to define it must reveal the impossibility of truly existing as a distinct form of classification. Thus the distinction between classifying and categorizing.

Upon definition it is proven that the term 'pie' cannot define a pastry as much as 'race' cannot define a person.

Even a hip-pie person :)
