You only discovered this song now? It has been plaguing Europe all summer, you're lucky to have escaped it! I think it's in Romanian, that's what it looks like after a quick Google search anyway.

I wouldn't have discovered it except that I'm a member of the linguaphiles community, and someone wanted to know what everyones favorite song was.

We don't get much music from Europe (or anywhere really) here in America. I think Americans are just really ethnocentric (the first clue being that we call our country America and everywhere else in the Americas is just something else). But then again, Europop is just strange to us. It sounds too cutesy.

Does a lot of American music make it to Europe?

*snigger*

Yeah, uh, ten out of twenty on the Norwegian single chart are American artists. Or eleven? Not entirely sure. Five are Norwegian, the remaining are British/something else. And about 20/40 on the album chart are Americans too. That ought to give you an idea... We get *a lot* of pop, rock, nu-metal, r'n'b and rap. Mwah. You should try listening to Norwegian radio one day... NRK <-- choose NRK P3 some time during the day (Norway is GMT+1 right now) and listen for yourself. This channel has three different lists that are updated regularly; A, B and C. The songs on the A list MUST be played 17 times a day... songs from the other two lists are played a bit less frequently. So yes... Songs on these lists are often hits from the USA. Personally, I hate all the R'n'B we get... and most rap songs sound the same to me :p But there's a market for it, so what can you do ( ... )

Yes, it's all over once Wal-Mart invades your country. There are literally 4 Wal-Marts within 10 minutes of my apartment (and there's like 2 or 3 more within 20 minutes). It wouldn't be so bad except that they are all Super Wal-Marts (which have a built-in grocery store in addition to the normal Wal-Mart merchandise.

I just don't understand why there are so many. I think their goal is to have one on every street! What is even more mysterious is that they are always busy. Many times it takes 20-30 minutes in line to buy stuff. Thankfully there are self checkouts, except that sometimes people don't know what they are doing and the light starts flashing for one of the cashiers to come help, but they take 10 mintues to notice that the light is flashing. It's just a mess.

But even so, I just can't stop myself from going. I predict that one day the world will be unified. Not by a common language. Not by a common currency. But by a Super Wal-Mart on every street. God help us all. I think a comet hitting the Earth would be better for us.

haha... "прошмандовка" was one of the first Russian words that I learned. I found it in the book "Dermo!: The Real Russian Tolstoy Never Used". It's full of Russian insults and curses. My favorite insult in it is: "Чтоб тебя нечистая сила забрала!"
