Gaithersburg commute?

Oct 23, 2009 11:10

Anyone have experience with the rush hour commute from campus to Gaithersburg in the morning, and back in the evening? Trying to plan the time necessary to get to NIST for 7:30am and back to campus by 7:00pm.

Thanks!

486 to 355 looks like the best bet, but I'm not familiar with the route at all.

I lived on campus or right off-campus my entire time at UMD, but I took some classes one summer where I had to drive from Germantown (right next to Gaithersburg) to campus to get to a 9 AM class. I had to leave by 7:30 AM to make it to College Park by 9. So anywhere from an hour to 1.5 hours.

It takes forever. Even if you take alternate roads, it will take forever. 355 is just as bad (well, you might save about 5 minutes) during rush hour. That stretch of 355 in Rockville, Bethesda at rush hour...forget it.

Bah, reading comprehension fail. You're coming from UMD to Gaithersburg. Well, during morning rush hour you might be a little better off since not too many people are going north on 270/355. But evening rush hour to get back to UMD will be a PAIN.

An hour and a half to two hours is ok. Means it's possible, at least. Thanks!

I'd go onto google maps as it tells you the estimated time it will take in traffic. ALso if you click the traffic button there is a way you can see how bad the roads typically are at a certain time of day rather than just current conditions. Might help some!
