Just my rehashed 2 cents on the whole thing (in which I laugh my ass off)

So there's all this hubbub going on about ADV emailing this fairly popular tracker asking that their licensed titles be removed, right? I don't see what the big deal is. Oh, I expected all the complaining and whining, which is happening right on schedule. But there are some really strange things going on at those sites where people are ( Read more... )

- Boasting about how glad they are that they were able to finish downloading XXX-series before this so that they don't have to buy it when it does come out.

When I saw "XXX" I thought you were going to talk about some hentai series. ;) (Just kidding)

Okay, putting my serious-hat on here. Yes, it's sad that people don't want legit copies for anime titles. It's because of people like that, that make companies release DVDs with extra bonuses and such. Sometimes you get a figure with your purchase. But because of these limited edition goodies, the price gets driven up on these DVDs. So for the people who complain on, "I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO BUY DVDs!" I guess you can say they're partly responsible. I mean, you didn't see all these limited bonuses/offers when stuff like Ranma 1/2 Big Trouble in Nekonron China came out. It's because back then, "downloading anime" wasn't the "in-thing ( ... )

To tell you the truth, I actually like extras ^^; (although not usually the kind of extras they do end up including). I don't get why our extras are things like t-shirts. That's really a complaint for another day though.

In any case, it's people like that that probably make stuff more expensive for the rest of us, since there are fewer of us to pick up the slack and have companies turn a decent profit. Not to mention they don't even realize they're shooting themselves in the feet - this kind of attitude is probably more likely to make companies crack down harder on fansubs in general. 9_9;

I know, I've never quite gotten the whole thing either. You get a lot of it in fandoms of niche games in which the English versions are difficult to find (*cough*Persona*cough*).

I've heard dozens of excuses for downloading illegal anime/games, everything from "if anime/game companies REALLY wanted to keep people from illegally downloading, they'd make it harder to do," to "I'm just a poor high school/college student, I don't have money to buy it," to "I'm doing this for my principles."

What it all boils down to is, they're spoiled and feel entitled to have things that they can't afford. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I thought the general rule was "if you can't afford it, you do without," but maybe I'm weird that way.

Suggesting that the site owners ignore the letter even if it is legitimately sent by ADV.

This is the darndest (and worst) suggestion ever. Even if one had no morals, one should still have a sense of shame. O.O;

I'm beginning to think perhaps people like that are just delusional if they can say something like that and think that they're normal and in the right. >_> ...Or at least really good at lying to themselves about how the real world works.

Linking to my post on the issue, because mura_arkaine pointed out that we posted on the same thing.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/lemchan/45917.html

We said more or less the same things, just that I said it more angrily ^^; The people who are whining like they are entitled to get this stuff for free due to some God-given right annoy me to no end..

But, not without a good reason! And thanks for the link - it's good to see that there are still sane people out there who aren't clamoring for more free! ¬_¬
