Just reading this now as I haven’t had time to check LJ for ages but I must say you’ve raised some interesting points. I can relate to so much of what you say about obsessions, the amount of time that can be spent on them, the reactions of real life friends and how much of my happiness is derived from my interests. I too, after dealing with real life spend a lot of time on my hobbies/obsessions. I will admit to putting real life stuff on the back burner to spend time on them. I also find I’m a bit less social these days

In regards to what idols think about fans obsessing over them, I don't really know. I was thinking about some of the stuff Arashi members have said about some of the myths that have been built up around them by their management and the fandom. Sho has said on several occasions they aren't as close as people think. I'm pretty sure Nino has also said it. Despite this, the fandom believes they're all BFFs, OTPs, together 24/7 and are dating to boot.
I'm sure all idols are, to some extent, aware of what the fandom says about them. Johnny's might not have public social media accounts but that wouldn't stop them checking. Apparently Maru checks Twitter to see what people are saying about his hair. Bless the little possum.
They must get a laugh out of some of the fangirl/fanboy carrying on. Which worries me - they must also see some of the hurtful things that are said.

Ah ok. I thought it was interesting that Arashi actually came out and said that they're not as close as folks think - you have to kind of wonder what prompted the public "confession"
And yep, makes sense that they'd know what public opinion and fans think of them - after all, that's part of the job right? ...I btw, love that Maru-chan does ego searches in general. I mean it's not a mentally healthy thing to do all the time I'm sure, but I love that he can't help himself and does it anyways. ...because that a really human part of him.
I'd imagine that one of the hardest things about the idol job is managing the relationship with your fans and how much you let that effect you, etc .
I really like the way kanjani8 treats their fans though <3
