sleepless near Seattle

It's 3:14am (pi time! wish I had some pie...). I'm unable to sleep, due to the combination of neuralgia from the bone spur in my neck, lingering migraine headaches and nausea from the myelogram earlier in the week, and the side effects of the bizarre cocktail of drugs I've been taking to keep all of the above barely under control. Do you find it difficult to "turn off" your brain? I sometimes find that what keeps me from getting to sleep is that my mind is constantly turning over. Thanks for the suggestions. Meditation doesn't usually help. It leads to an odd situation where I'll be in bed, and I'll be awake, but I won't be doing or thinking anything. Time passes, and I'll suddenly become aware that it's, say, two hours later, but I'm still not asleep, and I'm still just as tired.

It does help pass the time, though.

I have a sort of photographic memory and i just replay books and articles, or sometimes do mental crossword compiling imagining the grid and then putting the words in and writing the clues, it occupies me enough to allow bis of me to sleep

If I'm working on a project, I'll sometimes go over it in my head. I figure I'm already awake, I might as well be doing useful work. Unfortunately I've been having trouble with this lately, as it's hard to focus on purely mental work like that through the pain.
