Edward is pretty intense compared to what Link is used to, and in that sense, Ed reminds him a lot of the Hyrule King (but only in the intense way; other than that, Link doesn't see a whole lot of similarities yet). He associates Ed with wisdom and strength, despite the less than impressive size-- hey, he hasn't much going for him either! It makes him feel a little closer to Ed, since they at least have one thing in common, which he has noticed is a bit rare on this ship. WHY IS EVERYONE SO TALL.
He admires Ed's logical, sensible way of thinking, since that's essentially what he's seen of the teen so far. Even though he doesn't know Edward that well yet, Link can easily see him as being a person he would go to for advice. Despite the mysterious vibes Links gets form Ed, he has a feeling Ed is someone he could trust with his problems, even if the language throws him off a tiny bit.
Ed's definitely good friend potential, that's for sure! Link would be very happy to get to know him better.
if lily was link's sidekick in wind waker they'd save the world in about two days. the rest of the game would be spent eating cake and making flower chains.
Jinx is the guy whom Link met first, even if it wasn't in person, and boy did he ever make a lasting impression. Link thinks he's probably one of the most... colourful people he's met, so far. He's a bit out there, but Link likes that, considering that the place he comes from is pretty wildly out there, too! So he's used to it, even if Jinx's style of "out there" is a bit harsher than what Link's impartial to. He did assume that Jinx wanted to make bombs for justified reasons, after all.
Jinx comes off as a generally nice guy to Link (lmao), and even if it doesn't always look like Jinx wants to be, Link is convinced HE MEANS WELL. SOMEWHERE IN HIS ACTIONS. He's also never seen Jinx hit on anyone though, and he wouldn't have a clue what Jinx was talking about if he did, so Link is pretty biased on that one. So Jinx is stuck as the "good-intentioned extremist" in Link's mind

Due to the way things have played out, Herz is truly Link's closest friend on the boat. He honestly thinks the world of Herz and would do just about anything to keep him safe-- he was the first person Link met face-to-face, and the first person to befriend him, which says a lot about how Link first regarded him upon arrival. Herz seemed like the all-knowing being at the time and Link wanted to stick with him out of his own uncertainty.
He knows now that Herz isn't quite the way he first pictured, but it's not at all a bad thing to him. Link knows he has faults, but it only makes him want to care for Herz more. Herz makes him feel happy, calm, secure, and still worries him out of his mind; it's refreshing and exhilirating. There are very few people on the boat that Link feels he can genuinely protect, when everyone else seems so much bigger and stronger, and without weapons he feels so small-- but Herz is someone he feels he can use as an outlet for his need to take care of someone, and Link wants to do

If something ever harmed Herz (and I know you, Blu B|), it would impact Link enormously. While anything terrible happening to any friends of his would hurt Link more than physical pain ever could, in Herz's case it's hugely amplified because of the extent of Link's love, and by how much Link can only assume Herz has been through. Misfortune falling upon Herz would genuinely, truly devastate Link more than he could possibly put into words. He can only pray that this will never happen, and he doesn't even want to consider the idea at all. It's an almost unimaginable, surreal concept to him, and something he's absolutely terrified of; he doesn't know if he'd be able to live with himself if he allowed Herz to be hurt, and he definitely doesn't want to know for sure
