CRAZY LONG INFO MEME!
I'M FILLING THIS OUT AS I GO, PEOPLE.
EDIT: COMPLETE.
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Link is very, very tiny. He stands at a grand total of 3'3" (roughly the height of your average doorknob), and weighs about as much as your average paperweight. Which is to say around 37 lbs. He's still got some baby fat on him, but he's not genuinely chubby or overweight or anything like that. He's all-around very small and portable, in a chibi-fied way. Overall, he gives off the impression of being very breakable, but that's not quite the case. He's a pretty tough cookie.
A note I should put is that Link doesn't have nearly the same body structure as a human child of that age. That kid would be very young and would have very limited body development-- Link is just as physically developed as any other small 12-year-old, so his frame is reasonably daintier than that. As I said in his Wiki, it's more like someone shrunk a child rather than squished them down to three feet.
2. How old is he?
Link is twelve ("thirteen" due to a birthday), but that's only going by how many years he's been alive. Physically, he can probably appear up to five years younger, and depending on a character's canon he can look more childish than even that. Mentally, he's significantly more mature than your average kid, due to many, many things demanding that he grow up faster than usual. He can be considered quite a bit older in that regard than others.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
He seems to carry himself with generally perfect posture on his average day, or at least considering all that heavy shit on his back; headstrong and HEROIC, though he is often leaning backwards a little to look up at someone or something. He fidgets often. Whenever he's alert or looking for danger, however, he slouches into a defensive position with both arms outstretched and legs bent apart to move quickly if needed.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Link is mostly fine. He tries his best to stay healthy, and if not for himself, then so Aryll and Grandma won't worry about him. He understands the importance of preventing sickness, even if it's more in the "I can't protect people if I'm sick" regard than just not wanting the inconvenience on himself. Recently, he was exposed to radiation and received mild radiation sickness from it, but he's recovered basically okay. HE'S NOT GONNA GET CELL PROLIFERATION OR SOMETHING.
Before and when he arrived on the Elegante, he wasn't in the best condition, considering he barely ate or slept for a few weeks beforehand. After that he was pretty badly battered, but most of it was healed upon arrival. He's pretty much all good at the moment.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
He's absolutely fluid in his movements, and is hardly ever jerky or tense, normally-- and this extends so far, it's even in his combat style. The base of his fighting technique is quick, smooth, and graceful. Even though he has his fair share of clumsy moments, he's hardly the kind to trip all over himself everywhere (when he's paying attention that is; what is a "toon" Link game without the falling on your face?). Rest assured, he has none of the awkwardness that many boys tend to have around that age.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
Aesthetically, Link can be considered very attractive. Canonically, the Links are said to be easy on the eyes, and it can be assumed that this Link is hardly any different-- however, it's less in a handsome way, and more in a "cutesy" one. He has a round face, a tiny, slightly upturned nose, wide "cat-like" eyes, and a small mouth. He also has some of the archetypal "blond-and-blue-eyed angel" going on, but it's less prominent than his other selves.
His looks are close to but not quite androgynous; he's very soft, and he's less angular than most boys, but he still has some of the typical male attributes: his lips aren't totally full, and his hips have less of a curve to them. He's still "pretty" in a way that can appeal to both females and males, however.
As for the mirror part? Link really doesn't care! People have told him that he's cute, but he doesn't rely on anyone's opinions to feel good about himself.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Link has surprisingly pale skin, considering he comes from a tropical island. He's not pasty, but he isn't tanned either, and next to your average person, he'll probably be the one with the lighter pigmentation. There are definitely a few scars and battle wounds on him, most of them on his hands, since he's an IDIOT and doesn't wear sword gloves to protect the tiny things.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
His hair is BRIGHT SUGAR BLOND in the game, but I'm willing to take some creative license with this and go with how it's shown in Super Smash Bros Brawl. It's closest to a light honey blond, and interestingly enough, his hair colour seems to be the lightest out of all the Links. Whether this is because his hair has yet to darken with age or not, I honestly have no idea.
It's shaped to sweep across his face, from one side to the other. It's fairly long in this regard, with sidebangs that fall over his ears. It seems to be general flow-y, and presumably soft.
9. What color are his eyes?
This is debatable, considering it changes all over the place. In most official art they're pitch black; in the rest, they're brown. Even in the actual game this can be confusing, since while they often appear dark blue, they're sometimes turquoise. NINTENDO CAN'T DECIDE APPARENTLY, SO I WILL DECIDE FOR THEM.
His eyes are blue, people! Depending on the lighting, they can appear a little teal in colour, but usually they'll be a niiice, deep bondi blue.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Not really. He's canonically described as "a young boy with big eyes and an expressive face", but he hasn't much else going for him besides his daintiness and the whole elf ears thing.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
The small of his back, and cheesily, his heart. He's not one to be that tense, but when he is, it's pretty bad.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He wears all of two different clothing sets: his Hero clothes, and his pajamas. His Hero clothes consist of a green tunic and wind sock, a light green undershirt, boots, a belt, and the notorious white tights. His pajamas include a dark blue, oversized shirt with a white lobster CRAWFISH design, orange capris, shoes that kinda look like ballet flats (???), and wrist bangles.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
They fit perfectly fine: they aren't flow-y, but they aren't tight, either. At first, as is apparent in the game, he REALLY DIDN'T LIKE the Hero clothes, but he's fairly cozy with them now and feels an attachment to them.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
He's never not on the job, unless he's in pajamas.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
DO YOU GUYS REALLY CARE ABOUT THIS. It's briefs, okay, boxers are not preferred for leggings.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
If you've played the game, you'll be aware that it's higher-pitched than even MM!Link's voice was. It's a voice that just makes you think, "man, puberty is gonna hit this kid harder than a bus", in a wholly Justin Bieber fashion. It's girly. There's just no way around it, guys; that's just the way it is.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
He doesn't talk enough for this to be relevant.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
When he does speak, he has a distinctly Hylian dialect. However, to anyone who isn't familiar with it, they won't be able to place exactly what it is.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
He can fluently speak Hylian (Common), and also a bit of native Rito, but not nearly enough to be anywhere close to fluent. It's about as developed as "Hello" and "Goodbye" and "Thank you".
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Considering the few times that he speaks, it tends to be abrupt? More impromptu, unless in a srs bsns situation.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
HE DOESN'T TALK.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
He's very derpy, but generally a pretty smart kid when it comes to books and knwoledge and stuff. However, any technology whatsoever just flies right over his head. It's better to just tell him it's "magic".
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He's Link, he's notorious for thinking on his feet! Tetra even remarks that he's the kind to jump into things without deliberating beforehand.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
HE'S ALL OF THESE THINGS DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION...
4. What kind of education has the character had?
His Grandma presumably homeschooled him, and that's about all the education he's ever gotten. I'm assuming he can add, subtract, multiply, and divide, at least.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
He's proficient in the use of a sword, archery, sailing, using a compass, and chart-making (presumably both sea charts and star charts). Right now he's interested in learning HOW TO RIDE A MOTHERFUCKING HORSE which is like, the most amazing thing ever to him.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Absolutely an extrovert! He is animated and very, very expressive, and very rarely hide how he is feeling... unless he thinks it's best that someone doesn't know about it.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Link is your typical, cheerful kid. He's generally very calm when it comes to temperament, but usually fairly driven once he sets his mind to something.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
The only way to describe it would be curious. He's inquisitive by nature, and when there are new people and places and situations to explore, he fives right into it! He's an avid learner in this sense.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Um... BOTH...
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight, of course. That's what he's been trained to do, and he's far from the type of person to run away when he's confronted with danger.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
He has childish humour, but it's wholly innocent. If he can get the joke, he'll laugh, as long as it's in good taste.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
Martyr complex. This one is pretty self-explanatory; he deals with this by throwing himself into danger to rescue everyone ever.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
His grandmother has had a huge, huge, huge role in how this little one's grown up. He's been taught to be polite, sweet, and generous, and he's been more than happy to follow the example. One of the main reasons he still has a lot of childishness the other Links don't, is that he wasn't forced to grow up on his own. He has a family, with a loving sister and a sweet Grandma who took care of him and protected him until he embarked on his journey. As well as this, she substitutes as his mom, and since she's his only guardian he learned basically everything from her. She's been a really important person in his life, that's for sure.
Other than that? The obvious one: the beginning of the game, where Aryll is kidnapped and thus begins his entire adventure.
14. What does he fear?
Even though he's just a kid, he's not afraid (or at least not as afraid) of things that would normal scare a kid his age. His fears are deeper and more matured than that.
Losing everyone he loves is his greatest fear, it's as simple as that. For a while, he was really close to that fear becoming reality-- he lost his sister, and had to abandon his Grandmother. Luckily, he made friends along the way, but he still misses his family horribly. He's terrified to death of hurting them just as badly as losing them, too.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He hopes to be the best hero evar, to be loved his whole life, and to find the land that will one day be New Hyrule.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Probably everything that happened with Ganondorf. He doesn't want to talk about it. Also? Letting it slip that Hyrule is gone. He would hate himself forever if one of the ancient Hylians found out.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
His parents are dead, or at least they are in my headcanon for him. They were killed by a ~mysterious illness~ that Link also caught when he was a little baby, but he survived because he's LINK and therefore melodramatically immune to this shit. PERFORMIN' MIRACLES SINCE HE WAS THREE. He doesn't remember anything about them, and Grandma doesn't like discussing the topic.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
He has one younger sister; Aryll. He loves her to itty bitty pieces and would do ANYTHING for her. They're extremely close, that's for sure, and he protects her fiercely, as he believes he should. When she's older, he will watch her dates like a goddamn hawk.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
None he can't stand! Just his Granny, whom I've already explained. He loves her just as much as Aryll.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Everyone he loves is like his family. However, the most prominent family-like figure he has is his not!daddy Herz. How Link feels about Herz is explained in extreme TL;DR
here.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Oh, gee, I dunno about this one. I guess if I had to choose someone, maaaybe it'd be Tetra/Princess Zelda, you know.
As you may know, they did not hit off so well at first. They met when Tetra needed rescuing and Link went to save her, only to be treated like shit for it, and then have his sister kidnapped by a giant fucking bird. At first, Tetra thought he was just an annoying little kid and didn't want to have anything to do with him. Link wasn't very happy about it, but he put up with it, especially since he knew that he needed her at the time.
They've had a seriously rocky friendship, and they still have a lot of moral issues to work out, but everything they've been through together has cemented their relationship completely. There's absolutely no way that he can ever drift apart form her at this point, he just cares about her too much to let go-- and he appreciates her fully. He's well aware that there's no way he would have been able to survive his journey without her help, and he doesn't know how to express that besides staying by her for as long as she wants him around. Plus, she'd probably just call him a baby if he started getting all emotional all of a sudden.
Luckily, his image of her isn't biased by the fact that she's a princess, because he saw the wild, liberated, pirate captain Tetra before that. if he had first meet her as Zelda, he would have kept his distance a little more out of respect for royalty, but now he can only see her as simply as that: his best friend.
6. Does he have other close friends?
Other than Medli and Makar, Link's other close friends are all on the ship. They consist mainly of the two Princesses, Simba, and Herz. He luffs them v. much.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
No way! He loves making friends and he attracts them like a magnet.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
His friends are practically family, doesn't make him choose. 8|
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
He's twelve.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Twelve.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Nobody! He's not interested in anyone that way yet, not even Tetra. And... I personally prefer them as platonic friends (lol but every boy and girl that are BFFs obviously like eachother, right???) than together, so it's probably not gonna happen for this Link.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
TWELVE.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
TWELVE. He doesn't care yet.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Of course, he's fucking Link. He's got Gannypants to worry about, since the guy follows him everywhere.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
TWELVE. He has no idea if he's straight/gay/bi/asexual or anything in between, but it. Can probably be assumed he is not asexual or completely gay.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
TWELVE. Sex is really not something he thinks about a whole lot. The day he thinks about sex is the day the boat explodes.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
TWELVE!!!
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
I have his birthday in his headcanon as the 22nd of June! That means that in the Western astrological durations, he is literally at the very beginning of Cancer, and in the Hindu duration, he's a straight Gemini. Personally, I think he relates to them both in an equal manner, but neither are completely accurate.
As taken from Ncbuy, Gemini is:
"Gemini is the third Sign of the Zodiac. Moving beyond the physical exploration of Taurus, Gemini examines the world through intellect. They are fascinated with gathering as much information as possible, and their facility as communicators -- both written and verbal -- arises from this need. Bright and quick-witted, people born under Gemini display great imagination and tend to be very expressive. They love to learn. As the third Sign, Gemini also rules the third House: the House of Communication."
And Cancer:
"Cancer is the fourth Sign of the Zodiac. After the exploration of Self, the physical world, and the intellectual world by the first three Signs, Cancer people turn to nurturing the family group. They are emotional and traditional, interested in heredity and ancestors, and this is reflected in their desire to care for relatives and propagate the family line. Their lives are generally centered around the home, including hereditary property and "family roots." As the fourth Sign, Cancer also rules the fourth House: the House of Home."
I can't really say anything about his Chinese Zodiac, but if I took him from right now, he'd be born in 1998, his Yang would be Earth, and his Zodiac, the Tiger:
"The Tiger: Unpredictable, rebellious, colorful, powerful, passionate, daring, impulsive, vigorous, stimulating, sincere, affectionate, humanitarian, generous. Can be restless, reckless, impatient, quick-tempered, obstinate, selfish, aggressive, moody."
Yeeeeeah.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
He's not very religious unless you count Farore, but he's pretty spiritual, considering he's so closely connected to that shit. His future pretty much revolves around it, but considering no one remembers much about the Goddesses, his knowledge on what he should believe in is really limited.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
he has some pretty simple but unwavering morals. He won't kill innocent people-- the only, only time he might ever do that would be if he was forced to choose between them and a larger group, or a group of his loved ones. Take note that this would probably haunt him for the rest of his LIFE, however.
He also has high respect for adults, but only if they deserve to have it. Incidentally, the scarier they are, the more he respects them (fjsdfjskd The Major). Besides this, he's a firm believer in treating people how you'd like to be treated, and offering help when someone needs it.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
He's totally curious! He likes hearing about what other people believe in, since it's kind of like listening to people tell stories, which he can never get enough of.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
He doesn't hold prejudices. Obviously, he finds vampires and monster passengers kind of concerning, but he'll always give them a chance before he dislikes them.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
He comes from an isolated island in the middle of an ocean, consisting of --count 'em-- eleven inhabitants. They have canoes there, but that clearly means voyages anywhere were long and strenuous, so they rely heavily on the big forest atop the mount of the island. They build their houses from wood and grow their own food; Outset is a very independently functioning place, so money doesn't have much value besides something people store up for supplies or for buying things at the Beedle's Shop Ship. They probably have a moderate amount of money, but compared to the inhabitants of Windfall, they're probably bordering on poor.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
His social status on Outset was. Well. Probably an errand boy most of the time, because he was the oldest child there and the most useful when it comes to helping out (especially since there's only two grown men). Most people seem pretty lenient on what work he does, however; it's more of a suggestion when he was asked, but considering Link's personality that's like telling him to do it. His family is well-liked there, so most of the inhabitants are on an equal social level.
When he left Outset his status deflated pretty badly, though. He became "that kid with the funny clothes" for the most part, and he had to put a lot of work into getting high respect. Considering he kinda saved the world though, upon his return he'll probably be known as a pretty big hero. On the boat, he's got the status of Cute Kid, which means most of his respect comes from being a Link. He's treated very much like a little boy, which is a bit of a throw-off for him, considering how he was treated for the past while.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Like I said, he lives in a quaint, somewhat jungle house-esque wooden home. The exterior style is much like a hut, but the inside resembles the houses in Ordon Village (Twilight Princess-- the Ordon houses are probably based off the houses on Outset) much more. It's all open space, consisting of one room, with an upper level (note that it uses a ladder instead of stairs; the houses are very small), with a "living room", bedroom and kitchen rolled into one. I'm assuming that Grandma's old age doesn't allow her to nap in that gd chair all the time, so she sleeps on the double bed, while Link and Aryll sleep on the twin sized one on the above side. So basically, Link is used to a WAY different kind of living than the kind that happens on the boat. The boat is literally COLOSSAL to him, including the population (which overwhelmed him incredibly at first; even Windfall didn't usually have more than like 40 people).
Also, his house is in okay condition. And he likes it just fine, tyvm.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
On the boat he tends to buy beverages that come in glass bottles, for. Well, probably obvious reasons. Besides that, he buys a lot of paper and and pencils, and notepads. Things like that.
Back home, he got fucking LOADED to buy all the shit he needed to. The big takers were the bait for the Fishmen, and getting the Triforce Charts translated. Considering just one chart was almost 400 rupees and there are eight in total, he needed THOUSANDS just to pay for it all.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
He's An Hero for a living, and he's perfectly happy doing it!
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
He likes drawing, reading, telling/listening to stories, making friends, sparring-- things like that. He's kind of a dork besides the sparring thing, though he isn't complaining. He's also learning to cook! But somewhat slowly because what the fuck is an oven.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
He doesn't drink alcohol, he thinks it's gross. He prefers homemade food, which is why he usually goes to Sergei's more than the buffet-- the stuff there tastes kind of funny to him. He's been to Kuma-Ko a few times, but the bears kind of freak him out a little. Even if he really likes sushi, he prefers the company of actual people.
As for eating habits, my Link is a light eater. It's not like he went hungry or anything on Outset, but he couldn't exactly stuff his face like the average preteen boy does, since eating a lot of food took away from what everyone else ate, too. Once he left on his ~voyage of destiny~, he traveled for days before reaching islands, which means he probably ate more rations than anything perishable, so yeah. He's not really used to eating like a King, so he doesn't tend to do it here.
My Link is also a vegetarian! Here's an excerpt from his
Wiki Page:
"...even though he's perfectly fine with seafood (considering where he comes from), he won't eat any other actual meat if he doesn't have to. While it's rooted from his childish dislike of killing animals to eat them unless necessary, it's fairly strengthened by all of the killing he's had to do, and all the bloodshed and gore he's seen on his adventures. Meat tends to remind him a lot of those things, which makes him particularly more reluctant to eat it (he's very young, so this really bothers him). He still has nightmares about that subject a lot, which just makes the idea of eating animal flesh significantly unappetizing to him."
