The thing is that you had to be that person for that time in order to become who you are now. Though I had a very different life than you did then, I was just as much a stranger to both my past and present selves.

How about lets remember 20 years ago instead, in my opinion one of the greatest New Years ever, when it became 1990 and we walked the midnight 10K in Central Park with Mom and Ruth.

walked. very very slowly. very last ones to cross the finish line, if i recall correctly! :)

let me be clear, i would never trade my past for anything - i'm a very very firm believer in the idea that who you are is composed entirely of who you've been. i do believe, without sounding egotistical, that i have very much and entirely evolved as a person since midnight 2000, but i had to start from somewhere, and if we're using that night as the counter, it was a phenominal way to kick things off. :)
