Will write my usual commentary when I'm done with this journal's editing. Ayu made me laugh - cherries, chocolate, going away just the two of us... eating chocolate with gusto (great verve is my translation, but gusto works as well).... *laugh* The commentary for this will be long... lots to analyse... and yes... our minor characters are doing great things.... *cackle* And hubby is very wonderful. *swoon*

Commentary and analyses, hooray!!

Nothing like Miyazono to open the long awaited chapter, Aiba feeling out Jun, Ayumu racing ahead at the speed of light, and MINOR CHARACTERS!! Yes, there were a lot of things going on, but I figured you would love a challenge. Now watch as Miyazono begins to turn over all the rocks, how our little creatures of the darkness will flee as they are exposed one by one!!! *cackle*

I hope I do not disappoint with the way my ending is planned out!! There are so many things and people coming and going, make sure you don't miss anything XDDD

Haha, fear not. I may have the worst immune system and be coughing up mucus, but at least I'm not like Jun with a boyfriend I can't trust! How many more blows can dear Jun take before Ohno kills him...? That will be interesting.

Ah my love I have missed you so~! and your cliffhangers still kill my queen, but a faithful servant I stay. Ayumu is so cute, and totally made shout out in German too. XD
And ahhhhh! Jun! Please be okay! I can't wait until your next update, and I hope you get well and stay well.

Why, hello there (^u^)/~~ I haven't been on much lately and with all the problems of real life, I haven't had much energy or time to think out my story and write. Fortunately, like my last update for Itsumademo, I caught a bad cold and was sent home. This gave me time to actually write XDD How ironic.

I notice that you and all the LJ stalkers who don't want to leave a comment immediately access the update as soon as it's available. Though I never can tell if the complexity of the storyline intrigues people or puts them off. Meh, but still, the wonders of the interwebs never cease to amaze me! I wonder if I should make a master post to make things easier to find...

Vindication on so many counts! Let’s begin with the order in which Haineko had written. We open with Miyazono at the law offices. Things seem to be at an uproar there. But there is an order in the disorder you might say. In this opening scene, there are so many vindications vis-à-vis my early analyses and commentaries. Let’s break it down and go through that which this segment makes clearer.

The Nozoki & JE ConnectionImmediately upon Miyazono’s entrance, the place is thrown into momentary confusion and a flurry of activity takes place. Under the cover of this hurly burly, Miyazono took the opportunity to get the basic information on the what’s what from Sawaguchi. From this opening scene alone, we know two facts about Miyazono. One, he doesn’t like sycophancy. Two, given how the rest of the firm treats him, he only trusts Sawaguchi in the firm. She knows all his professional secrets outside the courtroom, and it is she whom he trusts to do the preliminary legwork and the finalisation of the documents he needs. That he trusts her to ( ... )

In a sense, Miyazono is doing onto Kei a more refined reversion of what Nino (the dear little truffle) is doing to Daisuke. He is trying to win and woo and kill with kindness and offers of succour and understanding. We see this immediately from the get-go when Miyazono enters and offers Kei a seat. Kei simply stops lounging and plops himself into the chair nearest to him and is careless. While Kei is careless in his manners and behaviour (in stark contrast to Miyazono’s polite formality), he is in no way flippant. This means Kei walked into the meeting thinking he knows himself, his own mind, and what he wants. This is in contrast with Daisuke who only wants to go pastry school (and the boy really doesn’t know himself at this point). What this means is that Kei is wily. He’s far wilier than Daisuke, and he has to be wily for all the accounts he has been cooking for JE. Indeed, even Miyazono knows Kei is not to be trusted. Hence, despite the overly polite manners and the surface appearance that the conversation is sub rosa, Miyazono ( ... )

In so doing, Miyazono manages to get Kei to revealed his plans to tattle on Johnny and getting away to live another day. That’s because he’s been lulled into a false sense of security and he doesn’t even notice. But still, it doesn’t change that Kei is not to be trusted. He still is cocky and he still has the “I will just give you the bare minimum in this and get everything I want.” What he doesn’t know is that he’s up against an old fox who has pre-empted him at every step of the game. Just look at the fact that Miyazono has already prepared for this eventuality with the additional 100 million yen. That speaks volumes as to how much Miyazono has already anticipated.

Miyazono’s Governing Principles & His Approach vis-à-vis KeiMiyazono is something of a Confucianist, as evinced in the manner he adopts to Kei. Confucianists use the carrot more often than they do the stick. Carrots are rewards sticks are punishments. People like Johnny are Mohist because they emphasise the stick more than the carrot. And this is why in the jimusho, ( ... )

Confucians like Miyazono are always attacking the Mohists precisely for having these beliefs. Confucians are thinkers who value the noble things in people and despise rampant acquisition and materialism, and disdain placing reputation over what you really are. On paper, it would seem that the Confucians are very out of place, very conservative, with very elevated ideals. But you see, Confucians are not idealists whatever you may think. They best understand how the stick and carrot work. Why and how? Because they understand the problems that come from the usage of these two instruments (e.g. the stick and the carrot); the use of these two instruments ultimately limit our growth as human beings. So long as these instruments are used, human development is stunted. Why? Because animals are exposed to these instruments too. I mean how do you train and coax a donkey. The Confucians recognise that these two instruments may be necessary but they are not sufficient if you want to lead a meaningful life. In other words, if you truly want to be ( ... )

We move on the second part of this chapter which focuses on Nino and Daisuke. Most readers would have just skimmed it and not given it much thought. Evem if readers paid heed to it, they will just think it’s a sweet interlude to cushion all the backstabbing and chicanery going on in this chapter. Well, what that section doesn’t tell us is more important than what it actually says. Notice that the whole section unfolds not from the author’s omniscient viewpoint where we get a feel of the thoughts of all the parties involved. We get that with the other sections such as the opening segment with Miyazono and Kei, the exchange between Isabelle Etrange and Julie, the interactions between Mr and Mrs Ohno and Ayu, the conversation between Sho and Dr Etrange. In Ch 21, only the Nino-Daisuke section and the Ohno-Jun section are devoid of the author’s omniscient viewpoint. Instead, for those two sections, we are given Daisuke’s and Jun’s point of view. We see things from their eyes and from their heads. This is deliberate on Haineko’s part. She ( ... )

Recall, in the ryokan chapter after the shoot for the music video, Nino gives Daisuke the warns Daisuke that he isn’t nice. In that same chapter, Nino makes a play for Daisuke and things happened.

Now, in this section of Chapter 21, we have a hint that there has been some kind of physical consummation of that which happened in the ryokan chapter post music video shoot. We know that something had happened because Nino is now playful instead of morose and sullen with Daisuke. And Daisuke mentions explicitly that Nino just wants sex. If they had not had coitus before, it is unlikely he could point out Nino wants it again at the present moment. Furthermore, there is a hint that Daisuke is less formal and stiff with Nino. And we get a hint Daisuke is possibly slowly turning Nino’s creature and will want to do things that are in Nino’s best interest. Notice, that in this section Daisuke gives into Nino because he responds to kindness and niceness.

For these reasons, I believe this section marks a definite turning point in the dynamics between Nino and Daisuke. Daisuke now knows who values him, his work, his help and accepts him for him and who does not. All it takes is a little push for Daisuke to flee from Iago and given what Daisuke knows of Iago’s dealings with Kakia and HC Nozoki as well as the fact that he knows the said villain wants Nino crushed. This gives Daisuke some leverage against the old man and should this get to Miyazono’s ears, the lawyer will certainly bail the boy out. I am not surprised if that comes to be because Kei had already let slip Daisuke’s surname along with Gima to Miyazono. And Miyazono had recorded the conversation and he will go digging about these “timid” characters who have been personally directed by Iago to act against the Arashi members. But that is not to happen until a later chapter. It is true that for now until Daisuke falls over the precipice and rejects dealings with Iago outright, he will subtly be on Nino’s side with much great ( ... )

It is a sign that Nino is trying to piece together why Daisuke had to go under the knife, change his surname and all that to be someone else. He believes he can crack that puzzle, he can get at whoever is trying to screw him over and do him in. It’s a rather cunning and cold way of going about this and it does play on Daisuke’s emotions. When readers finally realise this (if they realise this), they will cry foul and say that Nino is being a heartless bastard. This amuses me because truffle is really quite selfish and nihilistic in his personal philosophy. Moreover, to his credit, Nino actually warns Daisuke from the outset that he is selfish whenever the boy claims he’s being nice, kind and good. Basically, the things that Nino told Reiya in the chapter where the sex addict host raped him still hold true. I can’t find the English words to summarise Nino’s personal nihilistic philosophy, so I will do it in Latin:
Qui jacet in terra, non habet unde cadat.
In me consumpsit vires fortuna nocendo,
Nil superset ut jam possit obese magis. ( ... )
