My first non-fic post

. . . because I'm desperate.

So I started seeking out original slash when I ran out of Shelter and Donald/Timmy fics to read.  I lucked upon a few really great finds, and one author happened to have a novel coming out, so I thought, what the hell, 7 bucks for an ebook sounds like an okay deal.  It was a cute story and a nice read, so then I thought I'd keep looking for more novels.  My next buy was nowhere near as satisfactory; I just wasn't drawn to the characters.  I pressed on, however, and it took me a long time to find Devils and Tigers, which was a well-written book with a sweet and funny story.  Now, however, I have accepted those random "you might also like" suggestions that pop up for two other books that are just awful.  I mean, I know I'm no award winning author, and I would say I have a fairly high tolerance for imperfection in writing (and in film) if I really like the subject matter . . . but these books were just plain bad.  I've read much, much better fanfic for free. So, I want to keep reading, but I don't want to keep wasting money, so I'm asking for recommendations if anyone happens by my journal.

My requirements:

-An interesting plot
-Happy ending (yes, I know I'm a sap).  I'm not all for straight fluff, though; I like angst, I just prefer a joyful resolution at the end.  If I wanted anything else, I wouldn't be reading a book, I'd be looking at real life.

My preferences:

-ebook (or free fic, of course!)
-realistic fiction (oddly enough, since I barely touched anything that wasn't scifi in my youth . . . but in any case this is what I'm looking for now.  Unless you count my happy-ending requirement as fantasy.)
-At least some angst

Okay, don't want to get too picky.  Any ideas?
