Does God have the power to create a stone that God cannot lift?

[This is not a rhetorical question... what do you all think?]

If it were God's will to create something he could not lift, then it would have to be in His will to not want to lift it.

Does that make any sense?

god can create anything, because god can do anything... whether or not god WANTS to be able to lift the stone is really up to god. therefore, if god so chooses, he may create a stone that he cannot lift, if he deems it necessary or just downright fun to do so. that god can do anything also means that it is not necessary for him to be able to LIFT the stone--- there are ways around that, from blowing it up to smashing it with a Mega-Ton Hammer, to keeping it in place altogether. but zelda references aside, i do get the point of your question...

simple answer:
yes, because at the core of it, god is all-powerful and as heather said, if it is his will to not lift it.

and no, because god is all-powerful and there is nothing that he can create that he cannot lift.

and also no, because there is nothing that god cannot do. therefore, "lifting a stone" counts as "something" and therefore god can do it.

...i think i lose. good question.

I thought about this for a while, and it seemed similar to the question of free will.

God can create and do anything, but He chose to create us with the ability to make our own choices in life, even if it means that we will (frequently) act against His wishes.

It seems to me that humanity is the stone God created that He cannot lift. Now this isn't to say that He is powerless to affect us. If God wanted me to leave my apartment right now (and fail my exam tomorrow), and start wandering downtown Atlanta performing miracles (sidenote: miracles are always from God's power anyway, not the person's), then He could make me do it. But would it really be ME who was doing it? Because part of my ineffable soul, what makes me me, is my free will.
