Valentine's Day is traditionally celebrated on February 14th in this America. In Japan, I have learned, Valentine's Day is celebrated on the same day, but in a different fashion. Women treat men to gifts and affections on Valentine's Day. March 14th, however, is White Day, where it is then men who give gifts and affections to women. Why does this ( Read more... )

You feel there is a need for more than one day of expressing affection through material goods?

I believe each partner in a relationship should be granted equal opportunity for expression. If there is to be a holiday to celebrate the coupling, there should be two to ensure this equality.

I appreciate symmetry.

Should both sexes not use the one day to be affectionate toward one another? Why are two days required?

Americans, as I have witnessed, have specific expectations of the day. The man is expected to dote upon the woman and, in exchange, the woman gives sexual favor. It is unbalanced. Why not allow two days if the affections of a couple are meant to be every day anyway?

An observation.

Why observe that does not hold interest?

A curious holiday, but like anything in life, I think balance in all things is necessary.

I appreciate symmetry. Valentine's Day alone lacks such depth.

From what I gather, in the United States, it seems to be something created by greeting card companies and diamond companies. It weighs heavily on males here to be perfect.

At least in Japan, it seems they have a fine understanding of give and take. I can appreciate that.

Males here are so very far from perfect. Mortals in general are.

Perhaps you can educate whoever you shared Valentine's Day with about White Day.

It is a day.... celebrated mostly in the midwestern region... where it is expected for the women.... to give flowers and candy to their men.

Do they then adjust Valetine's Day accordingly? Or are the women expected to exert twice the efforts of the man?
