Poor William. He's such a lonely wreck of a man, and he's not all that sympathetic. But I can't help but feel for him the more I know about his current state of mind. He intrigues me. A lot.
No, he isn't. I was a little worried about that at first, thinking readers might not take to him. Everyone seemed to love William in FtTP, but I wanted to explore a different side of the character with this story, one that isn't quite so sweet. I'm glad he intrigues you; it means I'm doing my job. :)
I just had to let you know that this was another lovely chapter and that this William intrigues me. I'm really enjoying reading this story. I don't care if you have long periods between updates. Your stuff is always worth keeping track of.
I really love the juxtaposition of the classes that you show here, and how so many people were dependent upon the "ruling" class. It's nice to see that, while not overly affectionate, the housekeeper does care for William.
Poor William. (sigh) I can't wait to see how you bring Buffy back in. :) This is wonderful.

I love the detail of William changing suits too often. I'm reading "Inside the Victorian Home" by Judith Flanders and the section on laundry does bring home what a huge hassle creating more laundry is. But there's no reason that William would know what a pain it is: he's not a woman and as such would not supervise and the staff can hardly complain about the extra work. Another example of the chasm of misunderstanding between William and his servants.
Not only is he unaware of what a hassle it is for the servants, I don't think he cares. Another reviewer said he is "not all that sympathetic" as a character, which is probably true. He isn't a bad person, but he is a man of his generation, classist and more than a little self-absorbed. I was worried some readers might dislike him because of this, but I think it will be fun developing a relationship between Buffy and a William who isn't quite so ... wholesome.
How is Buffy visiting his dimension?
For now, that's a secret. But I'm glad you're intrigued. ;)
