HOW LONG has it been since I updated properly?

Too long.  That's how long.  Lots of thing I keep meaning to put in here but I... keep forgetting as I am a muppet.

God, it seems like AGES since my birthday.  Well, it is.  Over a month.

I had a good birthday in the end though XD  Got a bit drunk the Friday before, I went to the pub with Louise from work, just after I left I bumped into Michael who was just going there, so I kinda went back.  I just got nicely drunk though, not too wasted or anything.  This is a sign of getting old.

On the Sunday, my actual birthday, I had a really lazy day.  I went over to my parents house for a bit to watch the Grand Prix and get given presents.  My mum, dad and brother gave me vouchers to go racing at Castle Combe, I'm really looking forward to using those sometime soon!

tehdarkshine came up in the evening, and we went for a meal at Cafe Rouge with my family.  I love it in that place, they do the most amazing Bailey's lattes.

The next day I went to Bristol Zoo with  tehdarkshine, Sue, Lindsay, Nick and babies.  I also got given presents by Sue and tehdarkshine - they both got me the same thing, completely independent of each other!  They both adopted a penguin for me at the zoo; I have a bit of a thing about penguins, it's the rock thing.

I've already mentioned what else I did that week - I let mad people cut my eyes open and shine laz0rs into them.  Yey.  I wasn't actually planning on having it done that week - I went for a consultation for it on the Wednesday, they said I was suitable for it and asked if I wanted to go ahead.  They said they had appointments in August and ooh, actually, they had one the next day as well!  I figured I may as well go and have it done so that I wasn't thinking (read: worrying) about it too much.  It's now... four weeks since I had it done (four weeks tomorrow!) and omg, it really is one of the best things I've ever done.  I don't know why I didn't have it done sooner; god knows I've been thinking about it for long enough.

As cheesy as it may sound, it's made me think of life differently as well.  The day after I had it done, I will admit, I felt like shit; I'm a natural worrier and ergo, I was worrying about "what if something goes wrong, what if I get an infection and lose my sight".  That wasn't helped by the fact that I hardly ate anything and so felt faint because of that, and also I felt like crap generally because I couldn't wash my hair properly or wear make up and the like.  I know that may sounds superficial, but it did feel weird for me.

But, all of that has meant that I now feel so unbelievably grateful that I have my sight, and not only that but I have good eyesight now without needing glasses.  It's really made me appreciate it.  You know when people ask "if you had to choose between losing your hearing or sight, which would you choose", I always said sight, without a second thought.  Now, I really couldn't answer that question, I've realised how amazing it is, and I don't think I'll ever take it for granted again.

And then... a couple of weeks ago I went to the British Grand Prix.  I really cannot put into words how much I loved that weekend.  It was seriously amazing.  I went with Ben, my brother, but helen_t went as well and so I met up with her there as well.

As well as the F1, they also had lots of other races - GP2, Porsches, Formula BMW, and classic saloon cars.  The classic cars was basically old 1960's cars, and they had Minis racing!  I just sat there wanting to spot them, haha!  The Formula BMW was amazing too, mainly for the fact that the drivers were all really young - the oldest was 21, the youngest was 15, and most of them were closer in age to 15 than 21.  There were some fantastic accidents with the Porsches as well.

But of course, the reason I went was for the F1.  And oh my god, nothing could really have prepared me for how fabulous they sound.  The sound you hear on TV really doesn't do them justice.  In real life, they louder and they sound more... pure somehow. The Saturday qualifying was amazing, made even more so by my favourite driver (Heikki!) taking his first pole position. We were sat on the pit straight for that and it was really good watching the quali from there, seeing the pit crews at work and all. Weird bit of the day, we got to the circuit quite late (about 9am!) so there weren't many places left on the pit straight, but we managed to get some together in a covered area. I went to get coffee and the like, came back and Helen had been sat about 2 rows in front of us.

I managed to get a really short video of a Ferrari going past from the Saturday practice, it really is short but... hey, I liked it ;)

I tried so hard to get photos of the cars in action, but do I really need to comment on just how hard it is to photograph a car that is going that fast?  I do now have lots of photos of road though.  Yey.  About the only decent one I got was this one:

So, instead, I will post the photos I took of cars when they were stationary.  Yes, much more sensible.

Behind the main grandstand there were loads of stalls for all of the teams (amongst other things), a lot of them had their cars on them as well.  So, I got up close to a McLaren, a Ferrari, a Toyota and a Red Bull. The best one I got up close to though was... the Batmobile, omg.

I did manage to get a couple of half decent photos from the race itself - mainly at the end though. One of Lewis Hamilton winning, and one of Reubens Barrichello when he finished third - I loved all of the pit crew running over to the pit wall to congratulate him!

And of course, I had to get a picture of the Abbey enclosure!

I SO want to go next year, Ben doesn't want to though :( Wah!
