Tall as he was, Sam Winchester was a hard man to find, harder than ever now that Dean felt like he would implode with the weight of what Veronica had told him. Or rather, what Sam and his father hadn't.

Tired out and sweaty from stomping all over the damn island, Dean didn't know whether to whoop or start throwing punches when he finally found Sam, but when he saw the earnest look on Sam's face, he settled for, "Hey."

Sam turned, immediately happier than a second ago by the way his face lit up. "Hey," he exhaled with a half-cocked grin. "You been running or something?" Dean definitely looked a little sweaty and Sam really hoped it was exercise-sweat and not the other kind.

And then there was that face, a genuine happiness that Dean couldn't reconcile with Sam's deception. Maybe the kid had a reason...

But even if he did, it didn't stop Dean's guts from twisting up every time he thought about it. "N'aw," he said, and beckoned Sam over. One way or another, he'd get his answers.

Sam cocked his head to one side, giving Dean a completely confused look as he shrugged and gave up on trying to figure out the why of it as he wandered over. "Dean?" he asked warily, brow furrowed, seeing as he couldn't really place what Dean had been doing. "What's going on?"
